With the UFC announcing the rematch between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington at UFC 268 this November, MMA fans around the world are in for yet another epic Welterweight clash.
While the first bout between the two culminated with Kamaru getting a late stoppage in the fifth round, one couldn’t deny the fact that the back-and-forth nature of the bout had left us with a few unanswered questions.
Now with the rematch set to go down, Colby Covington is rearing to get back in the Octagon to prove himself worthy of being a UFC Champion. In a recent interview with submission radio, the former Interim-Welterweight Champion shed light on how he dealt with his setback loss against Usman at UFC 245.

“I was able to get over it because I’m like you know what? it was his best night, it was my worst night, and that’s what happened, I still should have beaten him,it was that close.”
Even though Kamaru picked up the win in their last meeting, the bout between the two had a couple of controversial moments including multiple eye pokes and groin shots, but most of all, referee Marc Goddard’s stoppage which Colby immediately criticized and called out.
Nevertheless, Colby Covington now has another opportunity to become the undisputed Welterweight Champion of the world, and come fight night one can expect to witness yet another war of attrition between two of the most dangerous fighters at Welterweight.
Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington 2: What’s different this time around?
The first matchup between Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman took place almost two years ago. In the meantime, both fighters have evolved, working towards bettering themselves.
For Kamaru, one of the biggest shifts has been bringing in Trevor Wittman as his striking coach. Well known by the MMA community for his superior striking knowledge, Wittman also coaches current women’s Strawweight Champion, Rose Namajunas, and Justin Gaethje, to name a few.

Ever since working with Wittman for his bout against long-time teammate, Gilbert Burns, Usman’s striking abilities seem to have gone through the roof. Primarily known for his dominant wrestling and ground and pound, The Nigerian Nightmare has managed to wrack up two emphatic knockouts in his recent outings. One against Burns and the other against Jorge Masvidal in their rematch.
On the other hand, Colby Covington hasn’t been half as active as Usman, fighting only once against former Champion, Tyron Woodley. Nevertheless, Colby’s performance against Woodley was one to behold, with the 33-year-old finishing his opponent in the fifth round.
Moreover, after a series of public spats with teammates from the American Top Team, Covington chose to start working with MMA masters out of Miami and claims to be having the time of his life in a drama-free environment.
