In the latest episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience‘, he hosted writer and stand-up comedian Bridget Phetasy. During their conversation, Phetasy and Rogan discussed diets, and the UFC commentator told her about the side effects of the famous carnivore diet.
Joe Rogan: The carnivore diet and explosive diarrhea
Joe Rogan has always been an ardent supporter of non-vegetarian diets. He has always argued for their nutritional benefits and openly expressed his frustration with advocates of vegan diets. While talking to Rogan, Phetasy asked him about his carnivore diet.
“I generally only do it for a month, in January. January is World Carnivore month. So just for a goof, a couple of times you eat nothing but meat,” Rogan said. Despite praising the benefits of the diet, the 55-year-old also touched upon some side effects of the diet.
Responding to Phetasy’s question about whether Rogan got meat sweats, he said, “No, I get the meat explosive diarrhea. Dude, I had diarrhea you could write home about. Like you could write books about the diarrhea I had. Like it wasn’t just diarrhea. It was like oil was coming out, like crude, like black gold, Texas Cream.”
However, Rogan also mentioned the benefits of the diet and how he combated the issue of diarrhea that came with it.
Rogan’s solution to the side effects of the carnivore diet
Despite giving a rather graphic description of his diarrhea, Rogan did not reject the carnivore diet. In fact, he listed out how the benefits outweighed its remediable side effect.

“When you cut out all the carbs, and you cut out, particularly bread and pasta which is really for me the culprit, I avoided all the crash, and I never felt sleepy, and my energy level was completely sustained all throughout the day,” Rogan said.
Speaking of diarrhea, he added, “It didn’t bother me. I lost a lot of weight. But I didn’t lose weight because I was dehydrated. The diarrhea only lasted a couple of weeks. But, I mean, for a couple of weeks, it was touch and go… When I added in fruit, I avoided all of the diarrhea.”
