UFC legend Georges St-Pierre is a renowned voice in the combat sports world. The Hall of Famer revealed the one mistake that cost featherweight kingpin, José Aldo, his belt against Conor McGregor.

While in a conversation with scientist Lex Fridman on his podcast, the former UFC welterweight and middleweight kingpin revealed what he believes is one of the greatest tactics in MMA-trash talking. However, claims need proof and to cement his claim, ‘GSP‘ took the example of ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor.

“I believe another example of emotion that leads to failure is José Aldo against Conor McGregor,” St-Pierre told Fridman.

“I think it was on purpose that Conor McGregor did this. Try to bait Aldo to become over-aggressive. To open himself because he’s an excellent counter puncher. That’s what I believe… And made a mistake,” he continued.

Aldo, who stood undefeated for over a decade, was not an easy opponent as he entered every fight as a dominant champion. However, McGregor played his mind games with Aldo, ensuring that a tense featherweight who was afraid of losing entered the cage.

Conor McGregor dethroned ‘Junior’ in just 13 seconds and became an instant superstar. That lightning-quick finish at UFC 194 paved the way for the fame that he enjoys now.

Now, the Irishman has nothing but respect for the warrior that Aldo is and said so after the Brazilian beat Pedro Munhoz.

“Good to see Aldo had a good win the other week. Very happy to see that… Oh man, I tell you what, what a warrior. What a warrior that man is. It was an honor to share the octagon with him. I would love him to do it again.”
