The UFC 264 main event fight between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor was one of the most anticipated MMA events of the year. Fans from all around the world were eagerly waiting for this fight to happen. This was the third fight between McGregor and Poirier, with ‘The Diamond’ winning their last clash at UFC 257.

Coming into this fight, many believed Poirier to be the favorite. ‘The Diamond’ looked very good during the UFC 257 clash and was expected to repeat that performance at UFC 264. Poirier did exactly that as he won the fight via a first-round TKO.

The TKO however came after McGregor snapped his leg while taking a step back. He fell on the ground in agonizing pain and was later deemed unfit to continue. Many people believed that this shouldn’t have been the way this epic trilogy should have ended. UFC President Dana White also believes the same.

He said, “Yeah, you know this is the second leg break in what the last 3 fights or something. It su*ks, it’s brutal, it’s not the way you want to see fight’s end so. Dustin Poirier will fight for the title and when Conor’s healed and ready to go, he’ll do the rematch, I guess. I don’t know.”

“He goes into surgery in the morning. The fight didn’t get finished, you can’t have a finish that way. We’ll see how this whole thing plays out. Who knows how long Conor’s out? So Poirier will do his thing until Conor’s ready.”
