UFC star Sean Strickland has been riding the high of his recent win over Abus Magomedov. The #7 ranked middleweight TKO’d Magomedov in the main event of UFC Vegas 76 this past weekend. The dominant win has raised Strickland’s stock in the MMA community. His performance even earned him a spot on the latest JRE MMA show with UFC commentator Joe Rogan. Fans expected the outspoken MMA star’s chat with Rogan to be eventful, and he didn’t disappoint.
Strickland has been making a name for himself in the middleweight division for a while now. Slowly but surely, he is becoming a household name, thanks to his fights, but more importantly, to his controversial comments. The case was not too far from it when he appeared on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience.’ During his chat with Rogan, Strickland opened up about his childhood. The 32-year-old revealed one of his favorite memories from his childhood and it might surprise you.

Talking to Joe Rogan on JRE MMA Show #143, Sean Strickland talked about his rough childhood. He mentioned how it had to do with the character he is now. However, the UFC star had fond memories too.
He said, “I remember the first time in my life that I ever felt happiness, like, even when I think about it, it makes my eyes water. I was like 14 years old, you know? Just a f***ing f*** up loser man. And my mom brought me to an MMA gym, and I got the sh*t kicked out of me. Just f***ing like, goddamn, bloody f***ing nose…”
Experienced as he is in the martial arts culture, Rogan agreed to Strickland.

Considering Sean Strickland’s persona, fans should not be surprised at this revelation. However, there’s more to it. When Strickland made this revelation, he and Rogan were talking about the brotherhood in gyms that offer support to people fighting their inner demons. For Strickland, putting on the gloves and going five hard rounds in sparring might be a way to let off some steam.

“It’s f***ing did me wonders,” said Strickland about the gym culture he is a part of. Rogan agreed to his take and added that he personally knew people who had the same experience. This is not surprising, considering how much Rogan advocates martial arts and physical exercises to keep one’s mind and body healthy.
Meanwhile, Sean Strickland is not getting carried away with the win. He called for a shot against the divisional champion Israel Adesanya immediately after his win. With Adesanya stating his willingness to fight outside the top 5 rankings (as in the case of Dricus du Plessis), Strickland might have a chance at UFC gold.
