To the surprise of many, Zuckerberg accepted the challenge in pure Khabib Nurmagomedov fashion. As the buzz around the potential bout grew, UFC president Dana White stepped into the spotlight. White has confirmed the seriousness of both billionaires stepping inside the cage. The 53-year-old seems keen on making this fight happen, but not everyone seems excited about this bout.

Some time ago, the UFC President had shown reservations about making a “gimmick fight” happen in the UFC. However, many are claiming that Musk vs. Zuckerberg is nothing less than a gimmick fight. Former UFC referee John McCarthy expressed his disdain for White’s apparent change of heart regarding gimmick fights in his recent podcast.

“How long ago was it that f*cking Dana came out saying we don’t do gimmick fights? Dana White talks one way in one week and then he’s gonna switch. Dana’s gonna do what Dana can make money at.”

Moreover, McCarthy questioned White’s inconsistency, asserting that if Musk vs. Zuckerberg doesn’t fall under the umbrella of a gimmick fight, then what does? “Well, if that’s not a f*cking gimmick fight, I don’t know what is”.

Dana White has also been pretty vocal about his belief that an MMA fight between the Twitter owner and the Meta CEO can break all PPV and viewership records. However, McCarthy does not think so.

He lambasted this notion, stating firmly that the fight would not come close to achieving such a feat. Moreover, the former UFC referee went on to brand the matchup as an embarrassment. He even criticized White for entertaining the idea.

“You don’t want to see this. This would be an embarrassment. these guys are not gonna fight. It would be the most ridiculous and stupid thing ever, and it would not break any records. It is an embarrassment that Dana would say that he’s gonna do it. It’s a joke, stop!”
