While having a conversation with the ‘Pound-4-Pound’ podcast, Kamaru Usman reminded Nickal of that particular moment at UFC 309 and relayed his own experience of being loved and hated by fans. In response, the middleweight prospect emphasized that he was heartbroken at fans booing him, “It’s definitely not like the best feeling in the world. I want people to cheer for me. I want people to like me and support me and stuff, and it hurts my pride. It hurts my ego.” Bo Nickal’s performance at ͏UFC 309 ͏was dominant͏ against Paul͏ Craig; ho͏wever, he failed ͏to f͏i͏ni͏s͏h his ͏opponent.͏ On top of that, man͏y in͏ the MMA community b͏eliev͏e Nickal͏ is not ͏yet ready ͏to co͏mpete͏ on main cards of big PPV events.

The fact that fans may end up hating you, is something you’ve to be ready for as a fighter. But what Nickal particularly took issue with was the commentary team’s criticism of his performance – “I felt like the commentary — I talked about DC and his commentary — it seemed like any time he did the most minor thing, it was like he did something amazing. He didn’t even have a single big moment in the fight. [The] commentary was talking about how he [Paul Craig] did so well. I don’t know if kicks to the arm now are like the biggest factor in who wins the fight.”

Daniel Cormier believes Bo Nickal misunderstood his words for him

Bo Nickal seemed visibly hurt by Daniel Cormier’s comments. After all, the former two-weight champion should have been on his side, owing to them belonging to the wrestling fraternity. However, ‘DC’ clarified his stance in reaction to Nickal’s hurt sentiments. While having a conversation on his YouTube handle, Daniel Cormier said, “He may have misunderstood what I am trying to say. What I was more trying to say in this fight is that let’s not rush him into fights with people that are much more experienced,” said Daniel Cormier.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Bo Nickal truly overrated, or are fans too quick to judge his UFC potential?

He further added, “It feels like one of those situations, where a young guy who has shown so much promise gets a little bit fast-tracked. You know we have seen this time and time again, where an athlete comes onto the scene – they do so well, initially, that they get overwhelmed because you don’t know what to do with them.”.

For his part, Bo Nickal has been quite vocal about facing Khamzat Chimaev, who recently defeated former middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker at UFC 308. The fight with Chimaev might prove to be Nickal’s Achilles heel, as ‘Borz’ showed supreme dominance and a terrifying fighting style, even in his lackluster showings inside the Octagon.

Bo Nickal has proved himself as a high-level fighter, owing to his finishes and undefeated record. But is the NCAA Divison-1 champion a high-level MMA fighter enough to take on top-tier fighters in the middleweight division? Forget the top 5, can he hold his own against the top 10 in the division? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
