Carlos Condit recently caught the fans’ attention when he mentioned that he had witnessed Jon Jones getting bested by a fighter while in training. Was that someone from the UFC? The fighter’s identity was later revealed to be that of Adlan Amagov, who had competed in the UFC for more than a decade. Recently, the Russian fighter opened up on that revelation from the former interim 170lbs champ.

Amagov was one of those Strikeforce fighters, who joined the UFC when Dana White and Co. acquired the promotion in 2011. He had a pretty impressive record and won both of his two UFC fights. Moreover, he sported the nickname ‘Borz’ before Khamzat Chimaev even started his pro-MMA career.

During a recent Russian podcast, Amagov revealed he’s not been in contact with Jon Jones for as long as he used social media, and guess what? The former UFC fighter didn’t deny what ‘The Natural Born Killer’ had to say. However, he doesn’t like sharing inside stories since it’s a cardinal sin among the fighters.

“No, we [Jones and Amagov] haven’t been in touch for a long time. Since I deleted my Instagram, we haven’t talkedWell, it was just a sparring session, to be honest with you. I’m not comfortable talking about things that happen in sparring,” Adlan Amagov stated. “I’ve never told anybody about it. But when he mentioned it in an interview here in Moscow, they all started calling me and asking about it. Well, it happened in sparring.”

The Russian native later revealed that he hadn’t thought much about the sparring session with Jones—until reporters asked him about it following Condit’s comments. That’s when he confirmed not only that he had taken down the UFC heavyweight champion but also backed up Condit’s claim that he had battered the former interim champ as well.

“I was at a press conference a few weeks ago, and they asked me and it was the first time I talked about it,” the former UFC fighter added. “That also happened [taking Carlos Condit down] (chuckles). Not on purpose.”

Details on the man who took Jon Jones down

Like some other Russian fighters, Adlan Amagov, who’s from Chechnya’s capital of Grozny, had trained with UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov in the past. With a record of 13 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, he summed up his career in just a few years. Nevertheless, Amagov announced himself to the American audience back in 2011 when he knocked UFC light heavyweight veteran Anthony Smith in Strikeforce.

Moreover, Amagov even butted heads with former UFC champion Robbie Lawler, but lost that fight with a flying knee, but bounced back to remain a strong professional contender. However, almost eight years ago, Adlan Amagov suffered an injury, and living in the United States alone wasn’t cutting it. With a desire to be with family, the 38-year-old decided to bid farewell to fighting.

We could never know if Adlan Amagov, having taken Jon Jones down, would have become champion if he fought a bit longer in Dana White’s promotion. Regardless, let us know what you think about his statements about that one training session.
