So, why is UFC considering Covington or Chimaev for a title shot over Masvidal? One possibility is that they have both been on impressive wins lately. Covington, in particular, has been vocal about his desire for a title shot.
However, The Swedish fighter will face competition from former interim welterweight champion Colby Covington for the title fight if Usman pulls out. Chimaev has made a name for himself as a formidable force. So if Edwards versus Usman doesn’t take place, two prospects might be ready to take on the champion.
Sonnen reveals that Jorge Masvidal will be snubbed for a title fight
The UFC legend told that there are rumors surrounding the Edwards Vs Usman three-fight. According to those rumors, Usman might not make it to the fight. Subsequently, ‘Street Jesus‘ is going to grab the opportunity. However, this won’t pan out.
He said, “I’ll just share with you guys this if Kamaru Usman can’t make that date with Leon, it does not go to Masvidal.“
“You would find it, Colby, you would find it Chimaev, if you would find a Belal Muhammad. Just so you guys can put that, you could just put that rumor to rest,” he added.
Masvidal has had a somewhat inconsistent record in recent years. While he has had some high-profile wins, he has also suffered some tough losses. This may make him a less attractive option for a title fight, at least in the eyes of the UFC.
Wonderboy claims that UFC is looking at Masvidal
Stephen Thomson is recovering from his legendary fight against Kevin Holland. However, this hasn’t stopped him from providing scoops.
He said, “Kamaru Usman is having hand surgery, I know they [Leon Edwards] want to fight somebody in March and they were looking at Jorge Masvidal.“
Of course, this is all speculation at this point and it remains to be seen who will ultimately get the chance to fight for the welterweight title. It will be up to the UFC and its matchmakers to decide whom they believe is the most deserving contender.
