The UFC 290 probably exceeded the expectations of the fans with the awesome class of the bouts featured. The main event presented an enthraller between Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez. But, it was the co-main event war between the coveted, then Flyweight champ, Brandon Moreno and current UFC Flyweight king Alexandre Pantoja that got fans to their feet.

At the post-UFC 290 press conference, the UFC boss, Dana White, also expressed his appreciation for the fight. Further, he also named it the ‘Fight of the Night’. But, the neck-to-neck fight led the fans to have varied opinions about it. A large chunk of them also criticized the decision of the bout labeling it as a ‘robbery’. ‘Big’ teamed up with the known former UFC fighter, Josh Thomson, in a recent episode of their coveted ‘WEIGHING IN’ podcast for a breakdown of the UFC 290 bouts. Hence, it’s quite understandable that the coveted Moreno vs Pantoja bout would take the discussion at some point in time.

When it finally arrived, ‘the former UFC referee’ gave out his take, implying that he had all his expectations fulfilled by the bout. McCarthy said, “What more could you ask for from two guys. Because, they just bit down, they did fu**ing everything they could to put their opponent in the bad spots.”

Apparently, McCarthy was also aware of the ‘Moreno was robbed’ narrative that some fans derived after the bout was awarded to Pantoja via a split decision. But he chose to differ from those fans.

McCarthy realized that there can be different perspectives. But, he was definitely against those calling the decision a “robbery”.

The ’60-year-old’ former UFC official said, A little bit different in the way that it ended up. As far as who is doing what and that is a question when it comes to the scoring of the fight. But anyone who’s saying, ‘Oh! it’s a robbery’. No. Goddamn it. Plzz.”

Being such an experienced official, a lot of fans might take McCarthy’s opinion into notice to form their own opinions about the bout. While his opinion might also serve as a certificate of validation to the fans in favor of Pantoja’s victory.
