Israel Adesanya has kept much of his private life under wraps, but his previous breakup with Charlotte Powdrell has dominated the headlines more than he would have liked. But back in 2024, he tried to distance himself away from it and quoted his late friend Jamie Scott van der Kuijl: “My dream, for me, is to just attain peace. Attain peace. And that was a great quote by my friend, Jamie, rest in love. He always, that’s his quote, his slogan, ‘Attain peace.’ He’s like I’m going to train to attain peace. And even me. That’s why I’m single now. I like peace. I love peace in my life.”

But what transpired between them that pushed them to part ways? Here’s all we know about Adesanya and Powdrell’s public breakup.

Who is Israel Adesanya’s ex-girlfriend Charlotte Powdrell & why did she sue the UFC star?

Charlotte Powdrell, a real estate broker and former nurse, was once a significant part of Israel Adesanya’s life. The couple first caught public attention when ‘Izzy’, fresh off his dominant title defense against Robert Whittaker in 2019—where he delivered a brutal knockout—was seen in a photoshoot with Powdrell. However, it is speculated that their relationship came to an end in 2020 as the fighter stopped sharing any pictures of her on social media.

Fast forward to 2023, ‘The Last Stylebender’ finally shed light on their breakup, revealing that Powdrell had taken him to court, seeking half of his wealth. But here’s the twist—Israel Adesanya and Powdrell were never married. So what was the basis of her claim? Reports claim Powdrell argued that they had “dated for too long.” Concrete information regarding how long the ex-couple was together is unavailable.

However, many fans found this demand unjustified, including former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley, who dismissed it in 2023: “Izzy’s ex-girlfriend, they’re not married, right, wants half of his earnings. It’s hard to say, maybe they were together for many years, and she supported him in various ways, but wanting half seems unreasonable.

But in 2023, ‘Izzy’ also came forward to share his frustration. In a rant post, where he didn’t specifically name her, he revealed: “You don’t care about my life cause you’ve sold info about me, so I don’t care about yours.”

“I don’t even hate; I just don’t care about you. I’ve not been in love with you for a while. In summary, I’m glad this happened. I wouldn’t change a f–king thing.”

Later he posted: “Me loading up receipts…. Y’all shoulda left me the f–k alone! I got time and I got lawyer money,” and also wrote, “Women’s ‘Standards ‘ are merely fairy tales they have after living in a nightmare.’ ‘LOL women…”

Further, he also commented on soccer player Achraf Hakimi’s divorce from his wife, which witnessed the Moroccan athlete register his wealth under his mother’s name to protect it from being split. “Very relatable,” Adesanya wrote on Instagram. “Imagine being so f—-n entitled that you think you deserve what a man has worked his whole life for.”

“When you came into this life with nothing and tried to leave with millions. But like Achraf Hakimi, my assets are protected. I woulda taken half her s–t too, but I don’t want half of NOTHING.”

However, despite his struggles in love, Israel Adesanya remained hopeful about finding the right partner.

Israel Adesanya’s current partner Shana Evers

After his breakup with Charlotte Powdrell, Adesanya struggled with a negative perspective on women. In April 2024, he said, “Any b—- that comes into my life they think like this is their fu– happily ever after and I have to be like ‘nah baby’ like this is not that. But everything I do is for my future wife and my future kids. I wanna set this up so when I am done I can just be like …I wanna be there.”

But it seems he found love again, as reports suggest he is in a relationship with the Australian model and entrepreneur Shana Evers. Yet again, he chose to keep the privacy surrounding his relationship as neither of them posted each other on social media.

However, despite his efforts to keep it private, Shana, who owns the swimsuit brand Salt Gypsy and an online platform for creating 3D custom avatars for women in the metaverse, has a presence that’s hard to conceal.

That being said, she is also supportive of Adesanya’s MMA career. When he won UFC 287 after knocking out Alex Pereira, she took to her Instagram stories to post a picture of the Nigerian-born standing over ‘Poatan’.

While the couple has yet to officially confirm their relationship, it will be interesting to see if they ever publicly acknowledge their connection. What do you think?
