UFC 305 has been witnessing some of the coolest updates in the history of MMA. With a severely heated rivalry between Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis, the main event is definitely going to be electric. But the lightning in Adesanya’s new customized shorts just lit up the atmosphere on social media.

Dana White had previously brought in the golden gloves for the title fights. Needless to say, they looked pretty decent, donning the champ and the challenger in the colors of the champion. But Adesanya seemed to have a bittersweet opinion on the gloves.

On media day for UFC 305, a reporter asked ‘The Last Stylebender’ about his new shorts. The shorts were customized by the former middleweight champion with the colors of the champions. Gold lightning striking in a black background kept the fight fans gaping at the designs.

Adesanya said, “Yeah, it’s cool. I like it. It’s good to bring back a little bit of personality. And yeah, I think, maybe 5 months ago Hunter told me that was going to be a things. Even before the gold gloves were a thing. So, I’m happy I picked those and I designed them and sent them to him months ago. And then the gold gloves came through. And I wasn’t really a fan of them at first, but then I saw them with the shorts . i’m like, ‘You know what? They kinda work together… Maybe black with a gold trim, with the gold UFC on them. That looks even cooler. The gold gloves kinda… they look good with my shorts. But with some other fighters, they look kinda s**t.”

Adesanya isn’t the only one who criticized the gloves. The lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, and the former middleweight champ, Sean Strickland, were also unimpressed with the gear.

The golden gloves made their debut in the Octagon back at UFC 302, which witnessed Makhavcev claim a phenomenal victory over Dustin Poirier. But the LW champ didn’t seem to like the gloves at all. He said, “Honestly, I don’t like them too much. They become very old after I use them for two weeks. When you try to open your fingers, it’s a little difficult. The new ones, they keep your fingers closer.”

The emotions were shared by Strickland, as well. “They suck. Can we talk to the person who designed these gloves? Have you ever been in a fight in your f**king life? It’s like you get these f**king dorks that have no idea,” he claimed.
