Has “The Styleben͏der” managed to evade legal proceedings? It appears that Israel Adesanya has successfully navigated the case that was looming over him prior to UFC ͏293. The prosecution was set to pursue charges, but Adesanya seems to have eluded significant consequences, as the judge found him only minimally guilty.

To take you down memory lane, ahead of his potential clash with Sean Strickland in September 2023, Adesanya was caught in a drink-and-drive case in New Zealand. Legal documents reveal that this international fighting sensation faced charges͏ for operating a vehicle on Welle͏sley Street in Auckland Central with a recorded alco͏hol level of 87 milligrams per 100 mill͏iliters of blood, which was above the legal limit of 50 milligrams of alcohol. However, the court has made its judgment and the former middleweight champion has been pardoned.

Rath͏er than imposing a formal ͏conviction͏,͏ the judge directed the City Kickboxing star to ͏contribute ͏$1500 ͏to a charity ͏dedicated to addressing drunk-driving issues and participate in an educational program.͏

The fighter took to his Instagram handle to add stories about the judgment. Adesanya wrote “34 years young and no criminal record. I’m grateful the judge used critical thinking and compassion on this one. ” In a follow-up story, he added, “Today is a good day.” Adesanya was heartbroken when he got to know that he was getting arrested due to the case.

The kickboxer stated at that time, ” I want to apologize to the community, my family, and my team for the decision I made to get behind the wheel after drinking at dinner. I was pulled over and gave an evidentiary blood test, the reading was 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood. I am disappointed with my decision to drive, It was wrong,” Adesanya said to the NZ Herald in September.

It must be noted that Adesanya’s punishment for his crime was much less than what was quoted at that time. There were speculations that “Izzy” would have to spend 3 months in jail for his antics but fortunately, he has evaded that. However, Adesanya, in a recent statement, had stated that his conviction might affect his sponsor deals.

Adesanya at risk of potential sponsorship fallout after DUI charges

Adesanya may not yet be completely out of the woods, despite the favorable judgment. As per his lawyer Karl Trotter, sponsorship contracts, with potential values reaching hundreds of thousands of dollars, could be at risk. He said this without naming any sponsors in particular.

Trotter mentioned that Adesanya would have faced challenges getting into Canada (for UFC 297 promotions) if he had a conviction on his record. Further, Trutter said, “The adverse consequences, should my client be convicted, are monumental, I’m not exaggerating that,” Trotter said, “He realises he is in jeopardy.”
