UFC star Michael Johnson recently penned a new 5-fight deal with the promotion. The American fighter, who didn’t produce favorable results and suffered a slump in form in recent times, found a new lease on life as the promotion resolved to stick with him. Notably, the St. Louis native racked up some unfortunate and also controversial losses, including the one against Jamie Mullarkey last year. While the vocal fighter went 3-5 in his previous 8 fights, his win against Marc Diakiese in December 2022 allowed him to revive his career. Further, the promotion also banked on the same and entrusted him with an opportunity to justify his fighting acumen.

Markedly, the lightweight fighter, who is in the twilight years of his career, took up MMA as a way for him to dissipate his anger physically. The 36-year-old, who voiced his dissatisfaction with the UFC sponsorship deal with Prime, started his association with UFC when he appeared on the S12 of The Ultimate Fighter in 2010.

While the exact details of the contract are unknown, the 21-18 record holder took to Instagram to express his elation.

Thus, he wrote, “Let them think we’re done!! Not done by a long shot!! We’re just getting started! New five fight deal✅, New fight contract✅, It’s All about business!✅💰💰”

The Sanford MMA representative has a bracket of 5-fights to give fans memorable fights and also etch his name in history books. Starting his career off a runner-up on TUF S12, Johnson exhibited flashes of brilliance against notable fighters. One such outing to the octagon against Justin Gaethje in 2017 also earned him the Fight of the Year bonus.

Significantly, he also racked an impressive win against Dustin Poirier in 2016 and faced the likes of Beneil Dariush and Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, his career never took off and with his new deal, he might give fans a last hurrah at entertainment.

How did the fans react to Johnson’s contract extension?

While some fans expressed their rapture over the new deal, others pointed out the erratic performances of the fighter. Interestingly, the inconsistent performances became a characteristic of his UFC career.
