The UFC 294 card is taking shape. The event is scheduled for October 21 in Abu Dhabi. After it was confirmed that Islam Makhachev will be rematching Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title and that Paulo Costa would take on Khamzat Chimaev in a middleweight bout, another major fight has been confirmed.

The winner of this fight may see themselves at the front of the line for a shot at the light heavyweight crown. Vestnik MMA has revealed that Johnny Walker would be taking on Magomed Ankalaev at 205 at UFC 294.

Magomed Ankalaev was last seen in the ring against Jan Blachowicz  for the vacant light heavyweight title. Their uneventful fight went to the judges’ scorecards and was declared a draw. The draw snapped a nine-fight win streak that the Russian had been on, having lost on his UFC debut to Paul Craig with one second remaining in the fight. This loss is the only blemish on his 18-1-1 record.

His opponent, Johnny Walker is ranked #6 in the light heavyweight division on the back of his three-win streak. Walker has recovered somewhat after a rough patch in his career, where he lost four out of his five fights. His victories over Anthony Smith, Paul Craig, and, Ion Cutelaba have built a momentum that the Brazilian would be looking to take into his clash with Ankalaev.

The bout has title shot implications, with the winner likely to fight for the title. Alex Pereira will probably fight Jiri Prochazka for the vacant light heavyweight title. Jamahal Hill vacated the title after suffering an Achilles injury while playing basketball earlier this month. The winner of Walker-Ankalaev might fight the winner of Pereira – Prochazka for the title next.

Charles Oliveira will be looking to avenge his disappointing loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 280. The Dagestani proved too good for him that night and managed to submit him in the second round. In the Sao Paulo native’s last appearance in the cage, he swiftly dispatched Beneil Dariush in the first round at UFC 289 and reiterated his desire for a rematch with Makhachev.

In his second fight against a middleweight, Khamzat Chimaev will be taking on Paulo Costa in his much-awaited return after a year out of the Octagon. Ikram Aliskerov will fight Nassourdine Imavov in another middleweight fixture at UFC 294. Aliskerov has only notched one loss at the hands of Chimaev in his otherwise perfect 18-1 record.
