Islam Makhachev expressed deep respect for his long-time friend and coach, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Makhachev and ‘The Eagle’ have been friends since childhood. Both the men grew up in the republic of Dagestan and trained under Khabib’s late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

They have immense respect for each other and have expressed it in several of their interviews. After his father’s death in 2020, the undefeated fighter retired from the sports forever. However, he didn’t leave the sport completely.

“He comes every day to watch sparring, and he says what mistake we did. What we have to change. What, where we have to improve? He rent a big house for our team and spends a lot of time with the team,” he added.
