But Volkanovski is now on the receiving end of a jibe after Islam Makhachev’s recent tweet, where he calls out the Featherweight champ. What’s more – this tweet is a direct response to Volkanovski’s last tweet which sent fans into a frenzy. Check out how the feud unfolded below!

The Islam Makhachev-Alexander Volkanovski beef reignites

Last night, Islam Makhachev tweeted a direct call out to Leon Edwards, the current UFC Welterweight champ, for UFC 294. It’s been a while since fans saw Islam in the octagon, and it seems like the Lightweight champ is getting a little too impatient now.

In a rather bold challenge, Islam tweeted:

Volkanovski saw this as a chance to mock his rival. In a jibe tweeted by ‘Volk’ just a couple of hours ago, he took a direct hit at the 155 lbs champ. The Australian fighter wrote, “You running brotha, you don’t want this smoke.”

The tweet, which took many by surprise, comes just a week after the Australian’s epic title defense. It’s safe to say that ever since his loss at the hands of Makhachev at UFC 284, Volkanovski has grown a lot. And this recent win over ‘El Pantera’ has definitely made him a much more formidable opponent than ever before. But that’s not all – How would Islam Makhachev miss out on raising his voice on the matter?

Now, in a sharp retort aimed at ‘The Great,’ Makhachev fired back with a declaration that mixes things for the better. He suggested that his bout at Abu Dhabi this October be against the #1 P4P fighter. Here is the tweet by the Dagestani fighter:

With a call out to Edwards and now Volkanovski, Islam Makhachev may just have too much on the plate to chew. But whether the callout and chatter will culminate into something, no one can say for sure.

But for now, Volkanovski too has to sort some things out. His recent arm surgery will hinder his return to the cage for sure. But fans can be optimistic about a showdown – in case any of this chatter takes an interesting turn.
