Islam Makhachev has once again turned all attention toward himself. This time, however, it was because he wanted a fight against ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor. With McGregor returning to the UFC after a 3-year-long hiatus, most of the fighters want to fight against the former UFC double champion. But when Makhachev talked about taking on McGregor, the entire sporting community had its eyes wide open in anticipation.

Recently, the lightweight champ had a talk with Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo, wherein Usman claimed that one simply can’t sleep on Dustin Poirier, advising Makhachev before his clash against Poirier. However, when Usman said that Poirier finished the ‘Mystic Mac’ twice, Makhachev had to speak up. “Why you say ‘he finish Conor twice?’ Brother, everybody can finish Conor, 10 times,” claimed the champ.

Thereafter, when the Nigerian asked if Makhachev wanted to finish McGregor after Poirier, he didn’t say no. Soon, Cejudo swooped in to say that if McGregor defeated Michael Chandler, it would be a payday for the Dagestani fighter. Makhachev replied, “Brother why not? People have to be stupid to say no. Of course, I will fight with him. Brother when I will fight next, like October or November. I can fight August or September with McGregor. Brother easy! This guy not same. I don’t want to like make him feel like, look bad. But everybody know this guy not same.”

The conversation was soon released on Instagram by ESPN MMA’s IG account. Without a doubt, the world of mixed martial arts dived into the comments section with their thoughts. Here is what the fans had to say.

MMA fans react as Islam Makhachev claims to finish Conor McGregor

After the conversation between Makhachev, Usman, and Cejudo was released on Instagram, the fight fans took over the comments section. However, some of the fans claimed that it was all because of money. One of the fans pointed out that if Makhachev fought McGregor, it would be because of Khabib Nurmagomedov. The fan wrote, “If Islam fights Connor itd be to get those 30 million rubles for Khabib.” Another fan believed that everybody wanted the cash, saying, “everybody want the money fight.”

Surprisingly, most of the fans dissed Makhachev, siding with the Irishman. “I hope this man gets humbled,” wrote a fan. One of the fans commented a scenario where McGregor won against Chandler and proceeded to reclaim the championship belt from Makhachev. The comment read, “Imagine Conor KO’s Chandler, then fights Islam and KO’s him and becomes lightweight champ again.”

Fans’ support for the Irish mixed martial artist was indeed palpable, as fans wrote, “I’d love to see Connor sleep him. No more father to follow plan.” Meanwhile, another fan commented, “Dismissing Connor after the amount of work and fame he brought the UFC is exactly why people want to see this guy go down.” Another fan simply claimed that Makhachev was outright annoying. The comment read, “Islam is annoying.” 

But the UFC lightweight champ’s words were not out of line as per most of the fans. “he’s not wrong, conor isn’t the same person, we’ll see tho,” wrote one fan. Meanwhile, another fan wrote, “I love Conor, but todays Conor ain’t s**t.”
