Imagine this: NBA superstar LeBron James striding into Wimbledon dressed head to toe in full basketball gear—white sneakers, baggy shorts, and his Lakers jersey—gripping a baseball bat instead of a tennis racket. As he steps onto the pristine grass court, his high-tops leave deep scuff marks, causing the groundskeeper to faint on the spot. The normally hushed tennis crowd watches in stunned silence as LeBron, oblivious to the setting, bellows “AND ONE!” after every serve, attempting to dribble tennis balls and calling for alley-oops from the bewildered ball boys.
The chaos reaches its peak when he gears up for his signature “Look Down Three”—sending a powdery explosion into the air, leaving spectators in the Royal Box sputtering in confusion. Meanwhile, the frantic umpire flips through the rulebook, desperately searching for an answer: does dunking over the net count as a legal return?
Sounds dramatic right? Well, something of this sort took place on a basketball court recently. Well, it wasn’t overblown to such a degree but you get the idea, right? The culprit this time happened to be legendary UFC 155fer Dustin Poirier. And the MMA community wasn’t alone in taking hilarious shots at ‘The Diamond’!

Islam Makhachev couldn’t help but laugh after spotting Dustin Poirier wearing cleats—on a basketball court. The lightweight champion apparently came across a photo of ‘The Diamond’ from this year’s Celebrity Flag Football game, held this past weekend at Edna Karr High School in New Orleans, and found the former interim champ’s footwear choice downright hilarious.
But what the Dagestani found hilarious was that Poirier was wearing football cleats complete with sharp spikes in the high school’s beautiful wooden basketball court. “@dustinpoirier no way 🤣🤣🤣🤣,” the Dagestani juggernaut wrote on his Instagram Story along with said picture of Poirier.

The post by itself makes it seem like Poirier was maybe about to play basketball with the cleats on. But as we have mentioned, ‘The Diamond’ was not there to play basketball. It seems what was going on is that Poirier was in the court for some sort of post-game or pre-game ceremony.
However, Makhachev isn’t the first guy to call-out Poirier over his choice of footwear on the basketball court. A few days ago, on social media, a shocked fan had asked the Louisiana native to “explain” himself, to which the UFC legend had a hilarious response. “I was tryna get drafted bruh,” Poirier replied sarcastically.
Also present with Poirier at the game was another MMA legend- Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson. But why was Poirier at the game? Well because the Celebrity Flag Football game is organized for a good cause- to raise money for charity- and Poirier is always up for raising money for those who need it.
In addition, since the game took place in New Orleans, near Poirier’s hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana, it was natural he play in it. In addition to raising money for charity and giving Makhachev something to laugh about, Poirier also made some big revelations at the game.

Dustin Poirier gives update on his retirement fight
Along with laughing at Dustin Poirier over his cleats, Islam Makhachev is also the guy who nearly caused ‘The Diamond’ to retire. After all, the American lost to the lightweight champion in their UFC 302 clash last year, after which he made clear that he would be retiring soon. ‘The Diamond’ is 36, and has fought in the UFC more than thirty times.
The Louisiana native told YouTuber ‘The Schmo’ at the Celebrity Flag Football game about his next, and last fight, which he wants to take place in New Orleans- which isn’t quite his hometown- but it is close enough.

“I wish I could tell you more. I’ve been having calls every week with the UFC. But it’s looking like summer, in New Orleans, is close to happening for my retirement fight. A pay-per-view in New Orleans this summer would be incredible. That’s what I’m pushing for, that’s what the UFC’s working towards, and things are getting pretty close. Lay the gloves down where it all started in Louisiana, it would be an honor for me,” Poirer said.
