Until recently, fans had information of only one child that Islam Makhachev had, his daughter, who’s also his firstborn. However, during a recent interview with former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, the lightweight champion revealed that he has a total of three children, with two of them being boys and they’re pretty young. “Three [children]… girl [is the eldest and], boy, boy,” Makhachev told ‘Mighty Mouse’.

Moreover, Makhachev has a special bond with his daughter. At UFC 280, after defeating Charles Oliveira, Makhachev claimed that he was looking forward to spending some quality time with her and his parents, but he was missing his daughter more because he was not able to see her grow up due to his traveling schedule with the UFC.
“Last couple [of] months, I watched the video [of] how my daughter [is] grow[ing] up without me. But after [a] couple [of] days, I’m gonna be home,” Islam Makhachev started. But who is the mother of his children? Let’s have a look at that front.

They had invited thousands of people as guests to their wedding. Little is known about his marriage and his wife, but videos and clippings of his wedding have gone viral on the internet.
The guests at Islam Makhachev’s wedding included Khabib Nurmagomedov and Zubaira Tukhugov as well. It was a lavish wedding, which is expected, given how successful he is as an athlete. Now, let us take a look at a few more details about the lightweight champion, especially his life growing up.
Islam Makhachev’s early life
Islam Makhachev was born on 27 September 1991, in Makhachkala, Dagestan USSR. However, he did most of his growing up in the village of Burshi. During his early years, he used to train in combat sambo, which is a form of combat that originated in Russia. Makhachev confessed that while growing up he used to get into a lot of scuffles with people in Burshi. Everyone was under the impression that he was weak since he relocated from an urban area (Makhachkala, Dagestan).
While growing up, Makhachev’s parents had just about enough to meet the basic necessities of life. Although Makhachev was always interested in combat sports, he took his time in deciding to take up wrestling or sambo as a profession. Then, a certain UFC fighter entered his life, who pushed him to become who he is today – a world champion in the UFC.
How did Islam Makhachev meet Khabib Nurmagomedov?
A lot of people think that Makhachev and Nurmagomedov became friends when they started training at the AKA gym or under Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. However, that is not the truth. Khabib and Islam have been close friends since childhood. For more than 20 long years, the duo have known each other and have been training together.

According to sources, the duo were neighbors. What’s more, is that both went to the same school together. It was ‘The Eagle’ who pushed and encouraged Makhachev to pursue MMA. This is when Makhachev started training under Khabib. During this time, Nurmagomedov was still competing. To take himself to the next level, Islam Makhachev joined Khabib Nurmagomedov, and both of them were trained by Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father. Thereafter, when Khabib retired, he dawned on the role of the reigning lightweight champ’s coach.

Since then, the two have been inseparable. Now, not only are the two good friends, but they are teammates and sparring partners as well. In fact, post-retirement, ‘The Eagle’ took up the mantle of Islam Makhachev’s coach, and that has paid dividends in the latter’s career.
