Do Bronx’ had time to cut weight and make another attempt an hour later. However, as he still couldn’t make it on the second attempt, Oliveira got stripped of the UFC lightweight title. This means that he will be ineligible to win the title on Saturday night.

Many UFC entities reacted to the upsetting news. This included the likes of Justin Gaethje, Islam Makhachev, Michael Chandler, and other fighters.

Gaethje shared a picture of his weight on his Instagram story and wrote, “Poor b*stard still cutting. I’m back to 65 while he’s dying. He better make it. He has 5 minutes.”

Islam Makhachev consoled Oliveira and said, “Anyway, keep your head up Charles and good luck tomorrow, we all know you’re champ for a reason. And I’m looking to fight the winner of this fight, either for vacant title or new LW champion”

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier expressed shock at the news. “I was thinking Charles wins but I don’t know now….crazy”

“Making weight is always hard. But thinking you’re on weight, then missing weight, just to have to go lose more weight after you’ve lost your initial sweat is a living nightmare both physically and mentally. #ufc274

“Wonder if he still wants to fight at 145. I have nothing against the champ. But this is a disgrace. And I honestly feel most for Justin. What an absolute let down for everyone in the division. #sadday

I’m still in shock. Things like this are not the norm at the very highest level. The champion losing the belt on the scales. Unbelievable. #UFC274

“Worst of both worlds. He misses weight and gives up his title, but still cut enough to look absolutely dreadful. Now to go get in a damn cage fight about 32 hours from now…”

However, if the opposite happens and Oliveira wins, he won’t become the champion again. Instead, the belt will become vacant and the UFC will have to schedule another fight in the coming months for the title.
