All of the waiting that Belal Muhammad had to go through to get a title shot seems well worth it now. The #1-ranked welterweight, who is on a nine-fight win streak, seems set to take on champion Leon Edwards at the UFC 300 anniversary mega card in April this year.

To prepare for this, Muhammad is looking to pull out all the stops for the most important fight of his career so far. According to reports, the Palestinian is going to Dagestan to get the best training camp for the title fight. In this article, we take a look at why former UFC two-division champion Henry Cejudo thinks Muhammad’s friend, UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev will be disappointed if the 35-year-old wins against Edwards.

Henry Cejudo talked about the potential (there has been no official confirmation from the UFC yet) upcoming welterweight title bout between Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad at UFC 300. The Mexican-American felt that the recent crises in his native Palestine would drive Muhammad to perform well in the bout.

He felt Muhammad going to Dagestan to train with the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov would be good for his preparation and may help him win the title. Dagestani fighters are famous for their legendary toughness, discipline, and hard fight camps, and training with them is sure to sharpen up Muhammad’s skills.

“I just feel like the train for him [Belal Muhammad] is running and he’s only getting better. And especially the fact that he’s going and he’s training with a guy like Khabib Nurmagomedov, and actually more like he would probably do his camp maybe with Khabib to help him win that title,” Cejudo said on his official Youtube channel.

Islam Makhachev has indicated that he would like to challenge the UFC welterweight champion in order to make history and become the first Russian fighter to become only the sixth consecutive double-champ in the UFC. However, Cejudo felt a Muhammad victory over Edwards might throw cold water on these plans.

Cejudo on why Makhachev would not want to fight Muhammad

Henry Cejudo felt that if Muhammad won the welterweight title next, it would dissuade Islam Makhachev from challenging him for the welterweight title and become a two-division champion, given they were both Muslims and good friends.

Then again, I think about it again, I don’t know if Belal Muhammad does win, and I know how Muslims are,  will Islam Makachev go up and now fight Belal Muhammad when they’ve trained together? They’re both really good friends with Khabib and I know that they do have a brotherhood… Would he want that greed and go up and challenge him at 170 lbs?” ‘Triple C’ asked. Do you agree with Cejudo’s take?
