If there’s one thing that concerns Joe Rogan more than bear attacks and elk meet, it’s sardines. The small oily fish native to the Eastern Atlantic Ocean nearly killed Rogan, or so he thought. And no, it wasn’t with a rib-shattering heel kick (which sardines are famously known for, lol), it was because of a pollutant present in them.

Jokes aside, the fish has a lot of health benefits to it. They’re rich in terms of vitamins, minerals, and, of course, everyone’s favorite, protein. Rogan is well known for being very serious about his health, being an MMA practitioner and a professional very closely attached to the field. So the fear in him was real when a doctor told him about the high levels of this pollutant in his blood.

Joe Rogan has now talked about high levels of arsenic once detected in his blood on at least two separate occasions. In recent news, he was speaking to Elon Musk about how he was almost certain he was going to die. Thankfully, it wasn’t really the case.

However, this wasn’t the first time the color commentator has brought the issue up. Previously, Rogan appeared on another podcast where he spoke about the same thing. It just goes to show how seriously he looks after his health. Here’s what Rogan said in the old clip.

“I tested high on arsenic,” Joe Rogan said. “I was like oh my god is someone trying to kill me? And the doctor was asking me questions about my diet and I eat a lot of sardines. And I was eating several cans of sardines a day. He goes ‘oh well, that’s it’. . . I cut it out and there was no arsenic.”

It’s great that Rogan was able to find the root of the problem and weed it all out. Arsenic is a heavy metal responsible for a lot of problems. “You can get arsenic from sardines, too,” Rogan had said to Musk later on. “I found that out the hard way.” Health-wise, high levels of it can even cause cancer and lesions in the skin. And it doesn’t take a genius to know that it’s absolutely bad news.

What did Rogan say to Musk that didn’t catch his interest at all?

In a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan found some time to speak passionately about Jiu-Jitsu. However, Elon Musk was having none of what Rogan was saying. In fact, the X CEO looked more interested in the sardines story than he did in hearing about Gordon Ryan and his teacher.

“He’s the greatest Jiu-Jitsu competitor of all time. There’s no question. And he’s only 28.” Rogan said as Musk nodded and threw in the occasional “okay”. Clearly, the billionaire who launches rockets to space has no interest in getting down to the mat. Meanwhile, Rogan keeps trying to be as physically healthy as humanly possible. His step to change out of the sardine diet was monumental in bettering his health. The podcaster had recalled eating multiple cans of it in a single day. Truly, an inspiration in the art of controlling and eliminating.
