Jiri Prochazka will face off against Alex Pereira at UFC 295. The fight between the two incredible strikers is set to be the main event for the card. Originally, Jon Jones was set to defend his heavyweight title against former champion Stipe Miocic at the event. However, it was revealed by UFC CEO Dana White in an announcement that Jones had suffered an injury while training. Due to the severity of the injury, Jones is predicted to be out for 8 months or more. This led to Prochazka vs Pereira being granted main event status.

But it’s not just Jon Jones’s absence from this card that is notable. Prochazka held the light-heavyweight title before an injury forced him to vacate the belt. And if he manages to win against Pereira, he will become a 2-time UFC light-heavyweight champion! A rare achievement that has only been seen once before in the Octagon. Let’s take a look at how Jiri Prochazka matches up against the feats of legends in the light heavyweight division like Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier!

Jiri Prochazka is known by the fans for his wild fighting style. The Czech fighter made his name in the UFC with his power and incredible knockouts. He captured the UFC light heavyweight title against Glover Teixeira at UFC 275. However, his title reign was cut short due to a horrific shoulder injury that forced him to vacate the title.

And he is now ready to take back the title he once held. But the UFC light-heavyweight belt has had a strange journey ever since Jon Jones left the division. Jones, the former UFC light-heavyweight champion, holds the record for the most title defenses in the division’s history with 11 total to his name!

Jones also holds the record for most wins in UFC title fights with 15 under his belt. Despite his troubles outside the Octagon, ‘Bones’ sheer dominance is evidenced by the fact that he captured the light-heavyweight belt twice successfully.

Prochazka will be looking to emulate Jones when he attempts to claim his title yet again against ‘Poatan’ on November 11th. However, another name that gets lost in the tale of Jone’s dominance at light-heavyweight is his rival, Daniel Cormier! And ‘DC’ might hold a record that will be very hard to emulate for Prochazka or anyone else in the UFC!

Daniel Cormier holds a record that may not be broken anytime soon

The rivalry between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones captured the imagination of the fans due to its intensity. Both men were elite competitors in the light-heavyweight division and held the title at different points in time.

Cormier, however, added a feather in his cap that Jones or Prochazka would have a difficult time replicating. He was the first fighter in UFC history to defend his belts in 2 weight divisions! While Conor McGregor was indeed the first fighter to hold two belts simultaneously, he never defended either belt.

However, Cormier took on all comers at both weight classes before vacating the light-heavyweight title prior to UFC 232. The decision came as he was focused on defending the heavyweight title for the future. Regarding his decision to relinquish the light heavyweight belt, he stated, “I’d rather walk away this way than have the history books say I was stripped”
