Looks like Conor McGregor‘s TUF stint has been a masterclass in how not to run a winning streak! What was anticipated to be a triumphant return for the Irish fighter has turned into a series of disappointments as his team struggles to secure victories. Five episodes in, and the McGregor-led team has yet to taste victory. Further, the leaked footage of the next episode shows an ugly spat between the former double champ and Michael Chandler.
If these problems were not enough, the McGregor vs Chandler fight is also not looking like a solid possibility. Despite the show being on air, the Irishman has still not entered the USADA pool. Moreover, this means that McGregor cannot fight in 2023. In a recent YouTube video, the ever-outspoken Chael Sonnen voiced his concerns and skepticism about the Notorious’ intentions.

In the video, Sonnen pondered whether McGregor’s participation in the show was merely an attempt to generate headlines. Moreover, the former UFC fighter also hinted that McGregor might just be there to promote other brands.
“What’s Conor McGregor after?… Is he just trying to get headlines? Is he trying to promote other brands? He can be, that’s not a rotten guess.”
As the losses continue to pile up for Team McGregor, the math becomes increasingly bleak, leaving little room for a miraculous comeback. Sonnen also pointed to this fact and questioned that the Irishman’s TUF stint might just be a way to be in the headlines as the prospects of him coming back are not bright.
“If mathematically it’s not realistic for the other guy to come back let’s let’s go home. It’s just an interesting spot so before you think that Conor is out there and that’s what he’s doing, he’s getting his friends, there’s no plan to fight Chandler.”
The UFC legend stuck by his guns as he reiterated his belief that the McGregor- Chandler fight wouldn’t happen.

In an earlier video, Sonnen also highlighted the inconsistencies surrounding the potential fight between McGregor and Chandler. From McGregor’s delay in completing the necessary paperwork to conflicting statements regarding weight class and fight logistics, the former UFC fighter pointed out the lack of cohesion among the parties involved.
“You have Conor himself saying ‘I haven’t gotten around to doing the paperwork’. You got USADA saying we’re gonna fight but we’re gonna do it this way which is in 180 days. There’s three people, talk about the boss, Chandler and Conor. All three of them, they weren’t together. Asked what weight class they were fighting at, three different answers. There’s nothing about this that feels like a fight,” he said.
