Laura Sanko is undoubtedly one of the most noted faces related to the UFC. The ‘former mixed martial artist’ is currently in a tenure with ESPN as a UFC analyst and Reporter. Sanko boasts unmatched fame due to her attractive looks and outstanding interviewing skills. She has been a part of many noted interviews like the hilarious one with Colby Covington or the pre-brawl interview of Jorge Masvidal. But, this time Sanko came into news for the all the wrong reasons as she embarrassed herself a bit.

Sanko appeared on a UFC 282 pre-event talk show alongside the former UFC champ-champ and commentator, ‘Daniel Cormier’. The two also got into a debate as a list of ‘Laura Sanko’s top 5 active UK fighters’ was displayed on the screen.

The list of ‘Laura Sanko’s top 5 active UK fighters’ featured ‘The Notorious’, Conor McGregor in the second spot. The anchor of the show raised the initial question about McGregor being on Sanko’s list saying, “But is Ireland in the UK?“.

 

It was a well-known fact that McGregor is Irish. He has also carried the Irish flag with pride and chanted praises about Ireland numerous times.But Sanko probably lacked the knowledge that The Republic of Ireland and the UK were entirely different nations. She went on to answer, “Yes, yes”.

However, ‘DC’ threw his strong objection to Sanko’s words as he stated, “How’s Conor on the list? He’s not from the UK”.

But, Sanko continued defending herself, saying, “Yes, he is [from the UK]. The United Kingdom is the United Kingdom of Great Britain”.

She finally realized her slip after Cormier wanted confirmation from the others about, “Who’s right in terms of Ireland being in the UK?”. Sanko admitted, “I’m wrong”.

Conor McGregor was labeled as British previously as well

‘Mystic Mac’ was also announced to be a Brit by the noted British media house, BBC. A 2015 BBC publication said that he was the “first UFC champion from the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland”, although it was corrected later on.

Another famed British media house, ‘The Sun’ had also committed a similar mistake.

One of their pieces reported that Brad Pickett had been the inspiration of plenty of UK fighters, including ‘The Notorious’. The exact line read, “The bantamweight built a house out of his passion and helped pave the way for British stars like Conor McGregor to star in the UFC.

Most fight fans would agree that McGregor is a proud Irish and flaunts his nationality as one of his prime identity.
