Colby Covington lost against Leon Edwards after delivering trash-talk that may have been more brutal than his performance at UFC 296. It’s suffice to say things did not go his way during the bout or after it. On the 16th of December, Covington was not only beaten but was also booed.

The point is, it was a difficult loss. By all means, the arena seemed on Covington’s side during the fight. Chants of his name went up in the air as he battled ‘Rocky’. However, once he lost, he fell out of favor with the crowd and was booed. Does this spell the end of Colby Covington? His close friend has some insight.

Colby Covington has been fighting in the UFC for almost a decade now with his debut win in 2014. ‘Chaos’ has made a famous character out of his trash-talk and combustible narratives. He does all he can to bring the viewers to the arena. But is that enough?

The Leon Edwards’ fight may have been the one to break the camel’s back. Covington angered many with his comments on Edwards’ late father. And when came the time to back it up inside the cage, it went haywire. He lost via a unanimous decision and now his friend and admirer, Chael Sonnen, has some insider information.

“I don’t know if he wants to start over,” said Sonnen recently. “That’s the hard truth. I don’t know that we see Colby Covington again.” Here, some truth may be worth reflecting upon. Covington has lost all the title shots he’s been presented with over the last few years.

Kamaru Usman defeated him and broke his jaw during their first encounter. Now, Edwards has given him a sour defeat as well. ‘Chaos’ is currently 35 years old. While his career isn’t quite on an all-time low health-wise, the motivational angle may be lacking. Was the loss terrible enough to never recover from?

What did Leon Edwards say about his win?

It must have been the sweetest thing for Leon Edwards to hear Bruce Buffer announce his victory over ‘Chaos’. Edwards was locked in during the whole fight. The people and Covington may have expected him to lose his focus and get emotional, but ‘Rocky’ was as zoned in as a missile locked onto a target.

“In my mind, in my heart, I wanted to have a war with him. I spoke to my mum, I spoke to my team: ‘Words are words, shut it off, just keep your focus and fight your fight’,” he said in a conversation with TNT Sports. And perhaps the people on his side were completely correct. The champ shut off the stream of words and got to his feet. In the final round, Edwards struggled a bit and ended up on the ground against ‘Chaos’. But he powered through to the victory anyway. Will Covington recover from this loss?
