Chael Sonnen thinks Conor McGregor‘s recent training videos confirm that the Irishman will fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29. Alarm bells were rung for McGregor’s comeback bout after a press conference for the event was canceled abruptly on June 3, reportedly due to Mac’s reluctance.

Since then, insiders like Daniel Cormier and Jon Anik have expressed concerns that the already record-breaking bout may be off. However, with Mac’s recent training video doing the rounds, Chael Sonnen thinks that the Irishman has indicated where he stands on fighting Chandler later this month.

Sonnen feels Conor McGregor is trying to convince fans he will fight at UFC 303

Days after the press conference fiasco, the Irishman released a video montage of his training sessions. Chael Sonnen feels that Conor McGregor, who grew up in a working-class home and struggled financially, “has a personal respect to the guy that’s working hard and every Friday he’s putting just a little something aside that he then chooses to cash in and take himself and a buddy to Las Vegas.”

‘The Bad Guy’ reckons that by releasing his training videos, McGregor is trying to assure the fans that his UFC 303 welterweight contest with Chandler is still on. “So the story he’s attempting to tell with the training footage is ‘hey it’s all cool in here. Everything’s on,” Sonnen claimed on his YouTube channel.

The verbose UFC analyst elaborated his point further and emphasized that the story ‘Mac’ was trying to tell was simple, move on from the press conference disaster, and that he was training hard to take on the former Bellator Champion three weeks from now.

“So Conor is trying to tell a story. I think I know what it is: nothing to see here. Let’s get back on track just like we were before this press conference was ever announced. I’ll be there for those jumbo jets, get ready Michael Chandler. I think that’s the message. The only thing stopping me for being sure is he hasn’t said it. And saying it would be easy and much more effective,” Sonnen concluded.

While Sonnen feels that the former two-division champion should come out and address the issue, the bombastic Dubliner has already done it. However, it had the opposite effect to what McGregor probably intended.

Mac’s tweet following the press conference cancellation

Hours after the UFC 303 press conference was called off, Conor McGregor took to Twitter and revealed that the media day event was canceled due to a ‘series of obstacles’. The Irishman apologized to his fans and promised that he was looking forward to putting on a show in the octagon.

“In consultation with the UFC, today’s press conference was canceled due to a series of obstacles outside of our control. I apologize to my Irish fans, and fans around the world, for the inconvenience and appreciate all your passion and support. I can’t wait to put on the greatest all-time show in the Octagon,” ‘Mac tweeted.

What struck many about the tweet was that McGregor didn’t speak about the reason behind the cancellation, nor did he mention June 29 or UFC 303. The tweet, instead of reassuring fans, raised many more questions and those questions remain unanswered.
