After Conor McGregor withdrew from UFC 303 due to a toe injury, Michael Chandler was in a bad predicament. However, Chandler recently revealed through his social media that he had been offered a fight against Islam Makhachev for his 155 lbs belt.

This piece of news was shocking for former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping who decided to comment on it in his podcast.

Michael Bisping, surprised by Michael Chandler versus Islam Makhachev rumor

Chandler recently declared that he had been offered a fight against Makhachev for the lightweight championship title. With Arman Tsarukyan in the best position to get a shot at Islam’s lightweight gold, Chandler getting a shot before him while being on a hiatus for two years would certainly get some loud reactions from the UFC world. That is exactly what happened as Michael Bisping commented on it in the recent episode of ‘Believe You Me’.

Michael Bisping said, “There is no way! There is no way in the world that they are gonna surprise the world by offering Michael Chandler.” He acknowledged that he would like to see a fight against Islam Makhachev, especially since Chandler has been waiting for his opportunity for a long time.

However, he was surprised that the UFC allowed Chandler to break such significant news on X. “They’re just gonna allow Michael Chandler to break it on Twitter like that! No press conference! You know they are not gonna do it before like a big pay-per-view on a Friday Ws and stuff like that. No, they are gonna let Chandler break it by a little tweet,” remarked the Count sarcastically.

Even though the way the news was broken was not believable to either Michael Bisping or Ariel Helwani, Chael Sonnen was someone who believed that Chandler did have a shot against Makhachev.

Sonnen spoke about the same problem on his YouTube channel and said that most people were resisting this including Makhachev. He said that the only contender against the fighter would be Chandler because other fighters like Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway have their work cut out. Arman Tsrukyan is also temporarily out of the picture because he has been suspended for hitting a fan at UFC 300.

Chael Sonnen explained, “Given the fact that Gaethje lost… Max Holloway is the number one contender but chose to cash that golden ticket in down a weight class… Tsarukyan is suspended… Gamrot’s already competed… Charles Oliveira doesn’t want to do the fight. If we start to look at it, you go, yeah, it is for sure, it’s Chandler.” Sonnen also mentioned that he can go for the BMF belt if this does not work out. Now this new rumor is taking the UFC world by storm. However, it remains to be seen if at all it works out in Michael Chandler’s favor.
