Alex Pereira's injury update before UFC 307—Is he trolling us or being brutally honest?

If you’re a UFC fighter who’s struggling with injury ahead of a planned match-up, relax, because Alex Pereira has got you covered! Why? Well, in the latest post on social media, ‘Poatan’ known for his stoic demeanor inside the Octagon, surprised fans with a dash of humor. Pereira is currently gearing up to defend his light-heavyweight crown for the third time against Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 307 in October.

But in a cheeky post, originally shared on his Instagram story and later highlighted by ‘Championship Rounds’ on X, the Brazilian showcased an image of himself dressed up in a suit and sporting a rare smile! The image is seemingly inspired by UFC legend Randy Couture’s ‘spoof’ commercial for the ‘The World MMA Awards’ in 2010. While ‘The Natural’ was hilariously using fighting terminology to offer his services as a divorce lawyer, ‘Poatan’ instead is offering to step up to fight for the “injured” fighters himself!

After all, when the UFC 303 bout between Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor fell through due to the Irishman’s broken pinky toe, the Brazilian champion stepped up on just two weeks’ notice to defend his belt against Jiri Prochazka. The playful post has left the MMA sphere clutching their sides and here’s a look at what the fans had to say!

Some even claimed that they called the number but surprisingly, Tom Aspinall answered the phone! Well, it might just be because Aspinall, the current interim heavyweight champion has already thrown his name into the mix for the upcoming UFC 309 title fight between undisputed champion, Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

In a video on his YouTube channel after the long-awaited confirmation, Aspinall stated, “I, of course, have told the UFC if anybody gets injured or for any other reason why nobody can make it to that fight, why one of them might pull out, I’m ready to go. If I need to, I’ll fight both of them in the same night, no problem.” So, what do you think about ‘Better Call Tom’ instead?

Another fan brought up the fact that maybe Alex Pereira’s social media team was behind the clever post. Whether it was his idea or not, the MMA community clearly loved it.

It’s rare to see Pereira crack a smile, usually, he’s all business, focusing on his fights and training videos. But this post was different—lighter, more relaxed. Could it be that Pereira is ready to embrace a more playful side of himself? Fans certainly thought so!

But not all the reactions were on ‘Poatan’s side as some claimed that he was trying to avoid Magomed Ankalaev. The number 2 ranked light heavyweight is currently scheduled to face Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 308. According to his manager, Ali Abdelaziz in a conversation with ESPN, “It’s bullsh*t he’s not getting a title shot.”
