The world was shocked when UFC gave them a new middleweight champion. Former champ Israel Adesanya had moved mountains to get that belt and when he got it, he was a dominant defending champion too. However, his run ended when controversial UFC middleweight fighter Sean Strickland filled in for Dricus du Plessis to fight him at UFC 293. In a shocking turn of events, Strickland dominated Adesanya and won the fight thus becoming the new UFC middleweight champ. But Strickland’s days as champion could already be numbered.

There are a lot of fighters who are eyeing that title right now. One of them is Khamzat Chimaev. Undoubtedly one of the best fighters in the UFC, Chimaev has been hungry for the title for a while. While he definitely applauds Strickland and his team for the massive win, he has made his intentions clear – he wants the middleweight title for himself.

When Khamzat Chimaev turned up in the UK recently, he was greeted by a horde of fans with a lot of love. That day, it became clear – Chimaev is really a star among fight fans. However, despite all that popularity, it seems that Chimaev is of the opinion that the UFC is just not ready to give him a shot at the title. He has been asking for a title shot for a while now, but he just doesn’t seem to be getting it. The undefeated fighter, whose UFC record stands at 6-0-0, recently opened up and spoke about his grievances with Dana White and Co.

In a recent video that Chimaev uploaded on his YouTube channel, the middleweight fighter is seen casually strolling and talking about the title fight scenario. First, he spoke highly of Sean Strickland and acknowledged the big win for him – praising his dedication and his motivation. He also addressed the fact that his team really helped him to get in shape, both physically and mentally.

Then, Chimaev started talking about the top brass at UFC not giving him the shot he feels he deserves. “I dont know why the guys (UFC) waiting… give that chance to me. They are hiding that belt from me. Anyway, like I said, when I smesh everybody, they have to give that belt to me.“, he concluded.

How long till Khamzat Chimaev demands what he believes he deserves? Will he choose a more rebellious route, much like former UFC HW champ Francis Ngannou?

There is a possibility that something similar might happen to Strickland if Chimaev gets his title shot opportunity. However, as for now, he is focusing on defeating Paulo Costa – his opponent for UFC 294. If Chimaev takes the win, he will be one step closer to the title shot – in fact, he can demand it. However, if he loses, he might have to take on a few more fights and win them, before he can ask for that title shot.

Fighters like Dricus Du Plessis and Jared Cannonier already stand in line to get a title shot opportunity. Even Adesanya is looking to get his rematch. So where does Chimaev fit in? When is it his turn? The fact that Chimaev has been inactive for over a year also needs to be taken into consideration. Now, whether that is the reason for a delayed title shot opportunity or not, who is to say? Do you think a UFC 294 win will earn the Chechen a title shot?
