Current heavyweight champion Jon Jones is all set to make a return to the Octagon. The 36-year-old has been out of action for a long time after suffering a shoulder injury. ‘Bones’ was all set to take on Stipe Miocic at UFC 295, but the fight never happened because of Jones’s injury. However, it now seems that the champion is all set to complete the fight against Miocic later this year.

Bones is considered one of the hard-working fighters in the division with a stellar record of 27-1-0. And it seems like the legend is eager to continue his fine run in the promotion, as he recently took to his X account to share his training plans.

‘Bones’ is without a doubt one of the biggest stars in the UFC. He has defeated some of the biggest names in the promotion and is considered by many as the greatest. It seems he is ready to make a statement on his return as revealed by his latest tweet. He wrote on X, “Absolutely I’m convincing myself this is gonna be a hard fight. I do that every time. It’s probably why I always win. I talk a lot of shit, but people don’t see how hard I go. I got six months until November and I’m working like a dog. Working like it’s my first championship.”

One of Jon Jones’ biggest rivals has been current interim champion Tom Aspinall. The 31-year-old has been trying to get the attention of ‘Bones’ for a long time now. However, it now seems that the 36-year-old has no interest in facing ‘Honey Badger’ in his career. He is more focused on retaining the title of G.O.A.T and will be taking on Stipe Miocic next. Both fighters have been constantly involved in a lot of social media brawls. But it now seems the fans have to wait a bit longer to witness the battle.

With Jones returning to action, what consequences can the interim champion face next? Fan favorite UFC analyst Chael Sonnen has the answer for you.

Tom Aspinall’s belt is on the line as revealed by the UFC insider

Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen recently sat down for a chat at the ‘MightyCast’ show. While speaking to former flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, Sonnen made it clear that the return of Jones would strip Aspinall of the title. Most of the fans believe Jones will win his fight against Miocic and then take on Aspinall for the title. However, Sonnen doesn’t quite agree with it. He said, “Jon Jones and Stipe go fight. Jon Jones takes the microphone says ‘I’m retired.’ Boom! Aspinall now elevates [to undisputed champion]. Jon Jones says ‘I’m not going to retire,’ and you got Interim Champion versus Undisputed Champion, [right]? Wrong. You’ve got to look into the bylaws of government affairs,”

According to Sonnen, the interim champion gets stripped off his title as soon as Jones returns to the action. As a result, ‘Honey Badger’ will then have to give away his belt without any fault of his. Sonnen further added, “The interim champion can only exist when there is the absence of an undisputed champion. And therefore the moment the bell rings for Jon Jones’s next fight there is no longer an interim champion.”
