The war of words between UFC welterweight champ Leon Edwards and Colby Covington took another turn as the 31-year-old Britisher recently announced his plans for his next fight in an interview with Sky Sports. Interestingly, his disclosure during the interview comes after Covington’s recent tweet regarding their rumored fight.
‘Chaos’, while taking a shot at Edwards in one of his tweets, had called for a fight in July for the welterweight title. Adding to that, the American had also jibed at Rocky in an interview, claiming that UFC President Dana White would strip him of the belt if he didn’t agree to a matchup. Responding to these statements, Edwards, during his interaction with Sky Sports, dismissed Covington’s remarks while also disclosing his timeline for the next fight.

Shutting down any talks of fighting in July, Edwards pointed out that it would take place only if a massive sum of money was involved.
“Unless the stupid money comes. I don’t see it.” He said, “I fought under a month ago. March to July, I don’t think makes sense.”
After pointing out the active intervals that he has been fighting at, Edwards also revealed his preferred timeline and destination for his next fight. For the welterweight champ, recovering from his previous fights was also a major aspect in making that decision.
“I get time to nurse my injuries, I get time to get back into it. I feel like Abu Dhabi would be perfect,” he stated.
Don’t want to give me a title shot mumble mouth? I recall the British not wanting to give Americans our freedom either… So we took it.
See you in July junior.

His statements here come directly in conflict with what Covington had earlier tweeted. With this, Edwards also shut down the threats that ‘Chaos’ had been earlier aiming at him, especially the ones about White stripping him of the belt.
Edwards takes a jibe at the welterweight contenders
Speaking about the division he currently reigns on, ‘Rocky’ pointed out the work that he had to put in order to reach the stage that he is in currently. Stating that names like Covington and number fifth-ranked Gilbert Burns didn’t have to go on a long run of wins as he did, he says, “I had to go earn like ten fights in a row to fight for the world title, these guys are winning one fight, losing one fight and then fighting for a world title.“
Ultimately, as Edwards took one more jibe at Covington during the interview, he made his intentions clear about his next fight and when he wanted it to take place.

“Now I’m the champion, I decide. Colby isn’t a champion. So he doesn’t decide anything,” he said.
