“I’m Ready”: Colby Covington Discloses Timeline for Leon Edwards Fight After Dana White’s Assurance of a Welterweight Title Shot

Love him or hate him, Colby Covington has made a name for himself in the UFC by being unapologetically outspoken. He has never shied away from controversial comments and fans count him on the list of the best trash talkers in UFC. Also known as ‘Chaos’, Covington carries a heel persona that has helped him climb the ladder of fame and success.

Covington has been out of action for more than a year now. His last fight was against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272, which he won via a unanimous decision. Eventually, fans did see Covington back in the UFC shorts as he was the backup fighter for Leon Edwards vs Kamaru Usman at UFC 286. Although both fighters made weight, Dana White announced that Colby Covington will be the next title contender.

Colby Covington provides a timeline for his title fight

Earlier, there were reports of the fight happening in London somewhere around July. However, Edwards opted out of the fight card because he wanted more time out. Colby Covington recently appeared in an interview with the YouTube channel Submission Radio. In the talk show, he discussed the timeline for his title fight against ‘Rocky’.

According to Covington, UFC officials are aiming for August or September for this fight. However, the 17-3 record holder is ready to fight even before that. He even called his next opponent a mere “placeholder”.

“I know they’re pushing. I don’t know. They’re looking for in August or September now. It’s my guess you know, they don’t have anything locked in yet. The sooner the better for me. You know how I stay, I’m ready 24-7 365 (days). So if it’s today I’m ready, if it’s tomorrow I’ll be ready, if it’s however long, it is it’s just a formality. Everybody knows Leon’s nothing more than a placeholder.”

Colby Covington gives a new nickname to Leon Edwards

Ever since Covington opted for his heel persona, he has mocked numerous UFC fighters by giving them nicknames. In the past, he has renamed Rafael dos Anjos as Rafael dos Nachos, Jorge Masvidal as Street Judas, and Khamzat Chimaev as Cumsh*t Chimaev.

In the interview with Submission Radio, Edwards had a new nickname for Leon Edwards. ‘Chaos’ called Edwards out, calling him out as “stupid” and claiming that the champ has a low IQ.

“His new name is Low IQ Edwards. Because guys, I want you guys to do some research on him. What is his education level? What did he get through? Did he even get through middle school because his IQ was so low?”
