Following her loss to Julianna Pena, UFC Women’s champion Amanda Nunes took a decision to hang her boots and start her own gym. However, losing the belt to Pena was more than she could take. Scrapping her original plans for retirement, Nunes trained hard and returned to the UFC to win back the championship belt.
However, owing to an injury to her ribs, Pena had to step down from the challenge. One of the division’s most prominent fighters, Irene Aldana stepped up to the challenge to face an enraged and driven Amanda Nunes. The match took place on 10 June and Nunes secured a thumping victory over Aldana to secure her top spot in the division.
Nerve damage is not good enough to get in the way of Nunes and the Title

A battered-up Amanda Nunes walked in for her post-fight interview. Although the fighter had a long night of exchanging blows with Aldana, she seemed to be in high spirits following her victory. One of the interviewers spoke about Aldana walking into the fight with an injury and asked Amanda Nunes if she had sustained any injury prior to the fight.
“You know I have a nerve damage in my.. In my leg already. I’m not even supposed to kick anymore, because you know, I always gonna get hurt. I kick in training, I kick in the fight so my whole career imagining.. my leg is just like dont can take anymore.” said Amanda Nunes, making her dominant win over Aldana even more commendable.
Speaking about her leg injury and how that possibly affects her game, the UFC Women’s champion said, “This is my.. One of my best weapon, you know, and take it away from me, and every time in the fight I always get hurt. Always! So.. but I’m glad I got the win tonight.“.
End of the line for Amanda Nunes
Amanda Nunes lost her championship belt to Julianna Pena in a humiliating loss. Ever since she has been planning her comeback to even the score. However, she had to settle for a championship match against Irene Aldana who stepped in for Pena. Now that she has secured the win and has the championship belt to her name, Amanda Nunes retired after the fight.

However, the UFC fighter will not be stepping away from the ring – just the promotion. Rumor suggests that Amanda Nunes is planning on taking her talents over to WWE. She has previously said that if she gets a favorable contract, she might consider making the move.

Now that Endeavour has purchased WWE and they are under the same umbrella as UFC, this might prove to be a smart and calculated move for Nunes, if she opts for it. She will be sharing the locker room with former rival Ronda Rousey, who made the same decision a while ago.
