Robert Whittaker is all set to come back to the octagin in a fight against Dricus du Plessis. The bout between the two is a crucial one for the entire middleweight division, as the winner between the two would fight against the current UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya. The bout between the strong middleweights is set to take place at UFC 290 on July 8 at T-Mobile Arena in Nevada. It is important for ‘The Reaper’ to win the bout, as it’s an opportunity for him to earn back his middleweight belt from Adesanya in Sydney, Australia. The Reaper currently has a record of 24 victories and 6 losses.

The last time the Australian fighter faced Adesanya was at UFC 271. The bout took place on February 12, 2022. After a back-and-forth battle, it was Adesanya who emerged victorious in the fight via unanimous decision. Whittaker lost his middleweight belt when ‘The Last Stylebender’ came face-to-face at UFC 243. Back then, the Australian fighter was the middleweight champion.  Recently, Whittaker took to his Twitter handle to give his followers an update about his fight against ‘Stillknocks’. He uploaded a video where he explained the reason for his staying away from all social media. He said, “Looking forward to fight against Dricus in July. It’s going to be a hard fight that’s why I’m putting in those ideas, putting in those hard work…“

He further detailed what he is up to, he added, “I’m just filling up the gas tank. Filling up the gas tank… Getting stronger as you can see, look at these (flexing biceps). Being stronger and yeah that’s pretty much it. I’m just enjoying the process… looking forward to getting in there. So thank you, July 8th. Me and Dricus getting at it.” Whittaker’s update has made fans much more excited. The MMA community is waiting patiently to see the clash between the two middleweight stars.

Israel Adesanya chose ‘Stillknocks’ over ‘The Reaper’

The current middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, has already made it clear that he wants to fight Dricus du Plessis next. The Nigerian fighter is not interested in Whittaker, as the two have clashed twice before. Adesanya wants new challenges in the middleweight division. However, Whittaker feels that ‘The Last Stylebender’ does not want to fight Adesanya, as he thinks that might end up with the Nigerian fighter losing his title.
