Back in 2024, Nick Diaz was seen in a rather troubling situation, engaging in some questionable behavior. The former UFC fighter appeared to be attempting to light something on fire while sitting behind a couple of bushes. While many within the community speculated that it wasn’t actually the older Diaz brother, the speculation seemed to be confirmed by a statement from Diaz’s girlfriend. Well, months have passed since that incident, and in a resurfaced video, the Stockton native explained why it’s quite hard for him to deal with everything.

Following the viral video, his girlfriend, Kay, took to Instagram in November and wrote, “Drug addiction doesn’t last forever; you either find sobriety, or it takes your life.” After Kay’s confession, the entire MMA community came in unison to pray for a better life for Nick Diaz. Regardless, in a rather resurfaced video, the former Strikeforce champion emphasized why it is so difficult for him to deal with his career.

“I was busy trying to help people who were never good. I should have been trying to help myself. I don’t really have that many real friends, and I said, l”Man I’m really in big trouble now. To be honest with you, I really don’t want to do this. But I’m always walking out to the other corner, ” said Diaz.

The former Strikeforce champion was one of the UFC’s biggest stars. However, all of this fell apart in 2015 when Diaz was fined a massive $165,000 and banned from fighting under the UFC banner after testing positive for marijuana by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. According to many within the MMA community, the promotion took away his prime.

Concluding his statement, Diaz emphasized that he never enjoyed fighting. He said, “Why am I doing this? I don’t enjoy fighting. I don’t feel confident—I never do, I never have. I have always felt like I’m gonna get trashed out there. I feel like I’m going to get the s**t beat out of me. And even when I win, I get beat up worse. And then, you know, I’m supposed to do all this other stuff that the other fighters do. And then it’s like I’m being punished for not being a regular human being or a regular person.”

Well, his story might have a melancholic ending, however, after months of tussle, it appears that Nick Diaz is finally in a better position. Let us have a look at it.

Nick Diaz doing a lot better after his episode

Nick Diaz was supposed to clash against Vicente Luque at UFC 310, however, his marijuana episode forced the UFC to pull him out of the fight. Regardless, a month after the episode, Nick Diaz’s close friend, Jake Shields, has come forward to give the MMA community a sigh of relief by claiming that the older Diaz brother is doing better now.

While appearing on ‘ The Overdogs podcast,’ Shields emphasized that he will be there for his friend. “He’s doing a lot better. I’m not going to get into anything personal with him. But he had some stuff that’s been going on for a little while and he’s finally heading in the right direction. So, I’m hopeful for Nick because he’s like a brother of mine, one of my best friends,” said Shields.

He further added, “Life’s tough sometimes, ups and downs, and things can happen. Nick was dealing with something, and I think he’s headed in the right direction. I haven’t felt that way in a long time. I finally feel a lot better about that situation. We’ll see, time will tell. I’m so close to him so it’s painful watching you know someone struggle with some things. But I think he’s going to be finally better.”

Nick Diaz has been away from the fighting world since his last endeavor against Robbie Lawler back in 2021 and it must be noted that he has not won a single fight since 2011. It would just be better for him to keep away from the combat world and take care of his health. Regardless, what are your thoughts on him? State your opinion in the comments below.
