Nick Diaz is all set to return to the Octagon at UFC 266 against Robbie Lawler. This will be Diaz’s first fight in more than 6 years. However, even spending so much time away from the Octagon doesn’t seem to have affected Diaz’s confidence.

Recently, the UFC released a snippet of the UFC countdown show where Diaz talked about his upcoming fight. He said, “I’m actually way more of a dangerous fighter than I was when I fought Robbie Lawler the first time. I’m going to be really unstoppable having made the right decisions.”

Diaz and Lawler had earlier faced each other back in 2004 at the UFC 47 event. Diaz won that fight as he defeated Lawler via a 2nd round KO. And now Diaz believes that he is a much better and a more dangerous fighter than before and therefore is confident about beating Lawler again.

He said, “I’m going to beat Robbie again.” Diaz currently has an MMA record of 26-9 and in his last UFC fight lost to Anderson Silva via unanimous decision. However, it was later deemed as a No-contest as Silva was tested positive for drostanolone and androsterone, while Diaz tested positive for marijuana.

Diaz’s last MMA victory came almost a decade ago as he had defeated B. J. Penn at the UFC 137 event. Lawler, on the other hand, has been competing regularly and last competed at the UFC Vegas 8 event in August 2020. The fighter, however, has not been in the best of forms and has lost his last 4 UFC fights.

What to expect from the fight between Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler?

Both Diaz and Lawler are at similar stages of their career and a loss at this point could be career-ending for either fighter. Therefore, both fighters are training hard for the fight and would love to get a victory.

Coming into the fight, Diaz seems the more confident fighter and believes he can repeat his performance from UFC 47.

However, the 6 years gap could seriously hamper Diaz’s chances of a victory. Although, as ‘Ruthless’ himself has not been in great form, no fighter seems to hold a substantial edge.

Therefore, while it is difficult to predict the outcome of the fight, one thing is sure that when these two fighters collide inside the Octagon, it is surely going to be a treat for all MMA fans.
