UFC’s very first heavyweight champion is about to go through a pretty serious surgery. Mark Coleman recently gave his fans a health update about his life. The fighter retired a while ago and is currently 59 years old. So, what’s going on with Coleman?
While he has been suffering from health issues for some time now, with a video on his social media handles he just made it all official. Looks like he will have to deal with infections and other issues at the same time. Here’s what he said about his “emergency surgery”.

Yesterday, Coleman took to his Instagram account to address the situation he was in. He was lying in a hospital bed and was in a condition good enough where he could speak. However, internally, he struggled with a lot of issues. He admitted to having a hematoma and an infection.
“It’s official. Not really emergency surgery but kind of emergency surgery,” he said. “The hematoma’s back, the infection is back. Gonna have to go in and clean it out. Put me on a picket line probably for six weeks. And we’ll go from there.”
Clearly, things are not looking up for the former fighter. He talked about it similarly in his caption saying, “I’m getting emergency surgery not really emergency but kinda I’m so blessed I got me in today”. In his time of distress, he still sent out a message of hope.

He told his followers that it’s more about the way you react to situations and now the situations themselves. It’s about how you “handle” things. And Coleman is trying to handle his health scare with as much positivity and strength as possible.

This is not the first time the former champion has faced terrible health issues. Previously, Coleman had revealed that he’d suffered a heart attack. This had come due to a complete artery blockage which put him into surgery to install a stent. This was back in 2020.

Before that, he’d also admitted to being in rehab for an alcohol problem. He told Ariel Helwani in 2021 that he’d been sober ever since he got out of rehab. Clearly, the fighter deals with his problems with as much patience and strength as possible.
