Competing in two divisions across UFC is not easy. It comes with severe weight cutting and preparation that can take a toll on a fighter physically. However, UFC Lightweight and Featherweight fighter Illias Topuria does it – and he does it well. The Georgian-Spanish fighter has 13 straight wins with no losses in the UFC and that is not an easy feat to accomplish.
There is a rumor that Topuria’s next opponent might be the Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. While there has been no official confirmation on this matter, Topuria is taking it seriously and has already given statements about how he plans on handling the fight and how he plans on ‘finishing the job’.

The interviewer asks Topuria what he thinks the fans and people, in general, have missed about Alexander Volkanovski and what he thought of his ‘potential opponent’.
“Ah! His weaknesses. So… he did…he don’t really have many weaknesses. That… that…that’s why he’s one of the best fighters in the world.” replied the undefeated fighter, in praise of the Featherweight champion.
However, he was quick to draw a parallel with himself by saying, “But I know that he can’t match my level of skill inside the cage. I’m… it’s as always you know the new generation always brings something new. Like the level of… of my fight game – its… its much better than… than his. This is the way I feel.“.
“And about if he is the pound-for-pound in the world, I have my doubts about him, because, before, like… I always like to give credit to the people so before Jon Jones… Jon Jones is not retired, I think he’s the number one pound-for-pound in the world because he deserves that. He proved that.“, clearly picking Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones over Alexander Volkanovski as the #1 Pound-for-pound higher in the UFC.
Upcoming Fights – Topuria, Jones, and Volkanovski
Although a match between Illia Topuria and Alexander Volkanovski is being considered, Topuria has an imminent challenge on his hands. He is slated to face Josh Emmett at UFC Fight Night Main Event, scheduled to take place on 25 June. Topuria has a big challenge to overcome before he can focus on bringing the fight to Volkanovski.
Alexander Volkanovski is busy preparing for his fight against Yair Rodriguez who is an extremely skilled fighter and definitely poses a threat to even ‘The Great’.
