“I’ll Gonna Smash Your Boy”- Joe Rogan Once Named Khabib Nurmagomedov as His MMA GOAT Over Conor McGregor Incident Years After UFC 229

The bout between UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor at UFC 229 is the most-watched pay-per-view event in UFC history. Joe Rogan, who was a commentator for the fight, once discussed it with David Goggins. According to Rogan, one grudge match between the two legends made ‘The Eagle’ the best-ever MMA fighter. On several occasions, the UFC commentator has called Nurmagomedov the greatest fighter of all time.

UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and the Dagestani fighter are often considered the two best fighters in MMA history. However, the 56-year-old believes that the former UFC lightweight champion’s dominance and undefeated record gave him the status of GOAT. Joe Rogan calls Khabib Nurmagomedov as MMA GOAT

Before the bout, McGregor did all that he could to mentally weaken Nurmagomedov through his trash talks. And ‘The Eagle’ responded to it by dominating McGregor in the UFC octagon. The bout between the two was a grand spectacle that took the fight fans to the edge of their seats. When the bout reached the fourth round, Nurmagomedov made the former UFC double champion tap out of the bout. This fight made the JRE podcaster feel no one could outdo Nurmagomedov in the octagon.

In the #1906 episode of JRE that aired in 2022, Rogan sat with retired Navy SEAL David Goggins. During the chat, Goggins asked about the best fighter. As a reply to the question, Rogan said, “Best ever in MMA? Khabib is definitely there in the conversation. He is the only elite guy to retire undefeated… When he fought Conor McGregor and they were booing him at the weigh-ins and he goes, ‘I’m gonna smash your boy!’ And that’s what he did. He was on top of him pounding him going, ‘Let’s talk now!‘” Rogan further detailed how Nurmagomedov took his revenge against McGregor by punching him hard during the bout. However, this was not the first time where Rogan mentioned Nurmagomedov as the GOAT.

The UFC Commentator heaps praises on ‘The Eagle’

Rogan has praised Khabib Nurmagomedov a number of times in his podcast, JRE. In the #2017 episode of the podcast, the UFC commentator detailed why Nurmagomedov should be considered the MMA GOAT. During the episode, Rogan praised Nurmagomedov by saying how he had lost just two rounds in his entire fighting career.

Rogan later commented about the effort put in by Nurmagomedov to polish himself as a great fighter. The UFC commentator mentioned how during Ramadan ‘The Eagle’ does not eat or drink anything all day but undergoes brutal training. Khabib Nurmagomedov is that one fighter who dominated the entire lightweight division when he was an active fighter.
