The ‘Funkmaster’ wants another shot! The UFC universe was in for a huge surprise as two Bantamweight titans clashed at the TD Garden in Boston for the UFC 292 PPV. Sean O’Malley, the prodigious Bantamweight title contender, proved to be too much for his rival Aljamain Sterling – finishing ‘Aljo’ in the second round with a right hook that took him to the canvas.

Although the win for UFC’s ‘Sugar’ marked the beginning of a new Bantamweight era, there’s much hype around who’s next for the new champ. Seasoned fighters like Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera and Henry Cejudo have already thrown themselves into the mix, demanding a title shot. But what’s next for ‘Aljo’? Well, according to the former champ, he is now eyeing a move up to the featherweight class. However, it doesn’t look like he’s over his recent loss just yet. The ‘Funkmaster’ is still adamant about having a rematch with O’Malley – and his recent tweet teases the timeline for this potential fight.

Aljamain Sterling’s competitive spirit remains undaunted following his loss to Sean O’Malley. Recently, ‘Aljo’ took to his X handle to share his wishful demands with the fans. Looking for retribution, Sterling has sent out a bold tweet directed at ‘Sugar.’ He wrote: “Rematch 2024. Game of inches. I’ll be back.”

This declaration serves as a testament to Sterling’s eagerness to avenge his previous defeat and reclaim his position in the octagon. But while ‘Aljo’s tweet illuminates his desire for a rematch, the question of O’Malley’s next move lingers. Whether the former champ will wait for his wishful “rematch” – or move on from this loss and take on new challenges in the Featherweight division – nothing can be said for sure.

‘Aljo’s rival Sean O’Malley seems to have different ideas for his first title defense

The newly crowned UFC Bantamweight champion has been the center of attention, with contenders vying for a shot at the title. Merab Dvalishvili, a formidable Bantamweight contender, has been on the cusp of a title opportunity. However, his friendship with Sterling previously deterred him from pursuing the championship. With O’Malley now holding the title, Dvalishvili’s pursuit of the championship seems imminent.

O’Malley’s preference for his first title defense comes to light as well. In a post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, he indicated his interest in facing Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera. This declaration aligns with his previous call-out of Vera, solidifying the notion that ‘Sugar’ has his sights set on this potential challenge.
