“I used to pray. This is what I do all the time. I wake up in the morning and I pray. I feel thankful for everything that’s happening to me, for the opportunity. I thank the God before I’m getting the victory.” That’s how Ilia Topuria summed up his daily mindset during his appearance on the Valuetainment podcast. Right now, Topuria’s at the very top of the MMA world. He’s not just a champ anymore, he’s a name just about every fight fan recognizes. However, despite all the limelight, ‘La Leyenda’ credits God and his family for the success.
The former featherweight champ isn’t just picking up wins in the cage, he’s kind of crushing it outside too. Ilia Topuria’s family life seems to be his real anchor, helping him stay grounded in a sport that’s as wild and intense as MMA. His wife, Giorgina Uzcategui Badell—well, she’s been there through it all. Not just cheering from the sidelines, but really holding things down behind the scenes. And then there’s the kids, Hugo and little Georgina, who are the two adorable reasons for him to come home smiling.
Ilia Topuria hasn’t exactly come out and laid down his full belief system, but it’s pretty clear that he and his family follow at least some of the core values of Christianity. He’s also been open about his belief in God on multiple occasions. The Topuria household doesn’t hold back when it comes to celebrations either. Giorgina Uzcategui shared a moment from their Easter festivities on Instagram. In the photo, she looked genuinely happy, surrounded by family, and the caption pretty much said it all.

She captioned, “Anything along those lines will get you the result you’re looking for! Happy Easter from us. Jesus paid with his blood to give us a full life of victory for those who walk beside him and believe. God is faithful, and so is his word. All things are possible, IF YOU CAN BELIEVE.”

This Easter celebration turned out to be something really special for the Topuria family. Not only did they enjoy some quality time together, but fans were all over the comments, showing love and dropping their well wishes on Giorgina’s post. One user wrote, “How cute all, congratulations for the beautiful family, a lot of strength to our great inspiration, Ilia Topuria Champion.”
Another added, “What a beautiful picture! Very nice family. Have a happy Easter Day, blessings.” And while most fans were just sending love, a few couldn’t help but stir the pot a little. One cheeky comment stood out, calling for a future mega-fight with Islam Makhachev: “Great Ilia champion, the nightmare of Islam.” Seems like no matter the occasion. Whether it’s fight week or a quiet family moment, Topuria’s name always stays in the mix.

It’s not just that the former featherweight champion thanks God for giving him a beautiful life—he goes way deeper than that. More than anything, he’s grateful for the gift that made everything possible. He truly believes that the power he shows inside the cage, the skill that made him a champion and one of the most feared names on the UFC roster—that all comes from above. It’s not just talent, it’s something he feels was given to him for a purpose.
Ilia Topuria credits God for his amazing knockout power
One thing about Ilia Topuria that stands out he has some confidence, but from time to time he has also shown the humility that requires a fighter to stay humble. It feels like he’s a good mix of Conor McGregor‘s cockiness and Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s humbleness in the mix. Okay, one aspect might be a little more dominant than others, but you get the idea. That mindset has also provided him with two heavy back-to-back knockouts over Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway, the latter surprised many because he was the first man to crack ‘Blessed’s iron chin.

On the Full Send podcast, Ilia, talking about his power, said, “From God! He gives that power. Of course, the only thing I do. I base my values on what God is teaching us in the Bible, right? So, I try to do all the thing that he teach us. I just try to believe in myself. Because I always used to say that both fear and faith demand you to believe in something that you have never seen. And you choose. And I always choose to believe in things that make me feel happy. Thinking that tomorrow is going to be better than today.
Ilia Topuria has indeed become one of the most successful names in the promotion, not only because of his fighting skills but also because of his character. So, what do you think of ‘La Leyenda’s nature, personality, the connection with his family, and faith in God? Please comment below.
