Is Max Holloway's new nickname a sign of his predictable fight strategy?

The UFC 308 pre-fight press conference had a lot of hilarious moments. From the funny responses of Robert Whittaker to silly nicknames, it had everything to make the media personnel laugh. One moment was when the conversation went to Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway. When the reporter started asking ‘Blessed’ some basic questions about what he might expect now that he was fighting at featherweight,  Topuria decided to give his opponent a new moniker.

The hilarious exchange went something like this: After the reporter asked him about his recent fight, Holloway said, “We will find out brother as I said. Like he just said we are going to find out what I’ve been saying all week. We a couple of days away, bro tune in it’s gonna be fun.” This is when Topuria decided to finally chime in with a new moniker since he had been repeating this phrase for a long time leading up to their fight. He hilariously stated, “ Max ‘Find out’ Holloway,  find out all the time. ‘We will find out. We will find out.” However, Holloway did not reply with a snide remark and just sat there smirking.

Furthermore, the reporter also asked Holloway about his BMF belt and why he did not bring it to the conference. ‘Blessed’ answered that it was kept at home. Hold on; because the report asked the same question to ‘El Matador’ and guess what he answered? – “We will find out.”

However ‘El Matador’ did not stop there as he had previously sent a warning to Holloway. The featherweight king admitted that he has long been a fan of former 145lbs mainstay but it was time for the new generation to take over. For the unversed, Topuria has already slayed Holloway’s former opponent and kryptonite Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298. And now, ‘El Matador’ wants the new generation to take over.

He said the same during UFC 308 media day citing, “He has achieved many great things in the sport. You can’t take the credit from him, so I have learned many, many things from him. He called me a fan. Yeah, I followed his career. I’ve been a fan. How can you not be a fan of Max Holloway, right? So, he’s been a great example for me, but now it’s my time to be that example for the new generation.”

Holloway, not particularly known for his trash talk, corrected Topuria’s claim of using a signature move that Holloway had previously employed. The Hawaiian native was talking about ‘pointing towards the ground and scraping out’ gesture that Holloway is quite famous for.

The BMF title holder corrected “El Matador” for incorrectly performing the gesture, emphasizing the underlying meaning behind it. “It’s mind-boggling to me, and even with the moment, a point-down moment. The point down moment — I don’t think he gets the gist of it,” Holloway previously told MMA Fighting. However even with all this hype for the fight, Dana White was not happy with the matchup.

Dana White expressed his ‘dislike’ of Holloway vs Topuria

For the unversed, Dana White’s recent source of agony has been his displeasure with the official UFC rankings and the 55-year-old is adamant about overhauling the entire system from scratch. Amidst this, the head honcho Dana White expressed his disappointment over the upcoming Holloway vs Topuria fight, citing his positive relationships with both fighters.

During his recent outing with Outta Pocket podcast the boss said, “This Topuria vs. Holloway fight is terrible because when you like both guys and they have to go in there and somebody has to lose, it sucks. Max Holloway is one of the greatest ever to do it, one of the nicest dudes and he has the BMF belt and he is a BMF, and Topuria has been an absolute rock star. It’s going to be a fun fight. I hate to see somebody lose that fight.”

However, the fighters are ready to go neck to neck with Holloway previously stating that Topuria is allegedly a secret ‘fan’ of his work. “I think he’s a fan of me, and I think he can’t deny it, I think deep down inside, he’s cheering for me, which is kind of weird, but he’s an odd fella. He’s an odd fella for sure,” he said to ESPN.

No matter what the case is, this fight is going to be a handful and White has to see two of his favorite fighters clash while one loses. Who do you think is going to win? What are your predictions? Tell us in the comments below.
