As far as physical attributes go, the featherweight challenger is standing tall at 1.7m which is arguably above average in the division. Moreover, he is primarily a grappler with 14 victories, 8 of which came by way of submissions. Nevertheless, his striking acumen cannot be understated either.

Out of his 14 victories, 4 came by the way of knockouts. Moreover, his love for the sport was a match made in heaven. According to ESPN.IN, he recalls the time he first encountered the sport in person and stated, “Since the first day I stepped into the gym, it was like something magical happened to me.”

Correspondingly, he is not the type of fighter that you would expect would take his opponent to his decision. Out of his professional bouts, it has only happened that the bout has gone to a decision.

Safe to say, he is a finisher and poses a style that may pose a threat to the champion. Not to mention, there is another discipline of Marital Art that he might be superior in.

Ilia Topuria created history in BJJ!

Topuria was exposed to the intense world of  Greco-Roman wrestling with the influence of his family. Moreover, back in 2003, he pursued this discipline with great seriousness as he moved to Georgia to train.
