Combat sports audiences all over the world have witnessed fighters transitioning between different sports. While some of them genuinely aim towards building a career in the new sport, a lot of others do it because of the insane financial gains that such transitions mostly offer. A number of UFC fighters have made such transitions, mostly into boxing. Most of them had the latter reason in their mind for stepping into a sport that severely limits their skill set.
The latest among those is former UFC champion Francis Ngannou. Fans of combat sports have been awaiting the coveted boxing match between Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury. This fight is also one of those where the paychecks, like the fighters, will be heavyweight. Hence, it is reasonable to assume there would be some lucrative amounts of money involved in the bout. Even the noted UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan, couldn’t help talking about the massive financial backing that such boxing bouts had.

Rogan’s producer, ‘Young Jamie’ pulled up the snap of the title for Fury vs. Ngannou, which had Rogan stating, “There it is, the Riyadh championship belt. The Saudi Arabian championship belt. Well, good for them. But hey bro, what they’re doing out there is wild. They’re throwing out wild amounts of money”.
The Saudis throwing out “wild amounts of money” also has the UFC in a sort of bother as Dana White and Co. witnessed Endeavor’s stock drop by an insane $800M dollars. All of this happened after a Saudi Arabia-based Public Investment Fund bought off some stakes in the noted MMA promotion PFL for $100M.
This is the second time this year that the PFL has dealt a significant blow to the UFC. The first was when they managed to sign their estranged ex-heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou after signing one of Dana White’s harshest modern-day critics, Jake Paul.
But that was not Rogan’s concern at the time. The BJJ black belt was more interested in seeing the various boxing champions, scattered across promotions come under one umbrella.
Most combat sports fans know that there are multiple global bodies governing the sport of boxing in the world. They also have their own world champions, which has reduced the credibility of world champions since there was more than one of them in the same weight class. Rogan echoed the noted American boxer Terence Crawford‘s opinion and suggested a way where all of this money could be used towards the development of this aspect of boxing.
Rogan suggests a developmental measure for the sport of boxing
The ’56-year-old’ requested the Saudi investors to “spend like a billion dollars and buy them all[the different global bodies of boxing]”. Rogan continued, “You buy the WBC, you buy the WBO, you buy the IBF, we’re done”.

He also stated how it would improve things. “Now everybody STFU. There are no more world champions. If they’re listening right now, gentlemen please, I’ll tweet about it. I’ll support this 100%”, said ‘the ‘JRE’ host’. Quite understandably, it would centralize the sport of boxing and increase the credibility of world champions since there would be only one world champion.
