“Never compromise, even in the face of Armageddon” – Words from the brutal no-nonsense character Rorschach from the Watchmen graphic novel by Alan Moore. If those words were spoken by MMA legend Nick Diaz, it would be equally fitting. Known for not being a company man, while constantly ‘sticking it to the man’, Nick and his brother Nate Diaz forged legendary reputations in the fight world. But lately, things seemed to have taken a dark turn for the older Diaz brother. He was scheduled to face Vincente Luque in Abu Dhabi last year but didn’t make it to the fight. The probable reason for it had the fight community worried for the Stockton slugger, including a UFC legend and a once arch-rival of Nick Diaz.
After the bout was announced, worrying reports surfaced that Diaz was suffering from a drug abuse problem. However, according to Diaz, he pulled out of the Vicente Luque fight, reportedly because of visa and travel issues. Thankfully, it seems the Stockton native is on the rebound, as he posted a video early this year from Mexico, where he looked pretty good and even revealed he was taking a BJJ class. But fans are still concerned about the former superstar’s health and professional future.
Thankfully, Georges St-Pierre has stepped in with a very generous offer for his most famous rival. “If I can somehow help him [Diaz] to make money in a way that we could do something together to promote something for the fans and then everybody will be a winner,”, GSP told Deeper Into the Cage in a recent interview.

It isn’t clear what St-Pierre means here, but it seems like he is suggesting one of several things. One reason could be GSP wants to do an exhibition fight with Diaz. Another reason could be the former UFC champ wanting to help Diaz promote one of his upcoming fights. A third reason could be the fact that GSP wants to collaborate with Diaz on seminars and workshops to teach martial arts. Whatever the outcome, seeing Diaz and GSP together would definitely be something fans will be up for.
After all, the build-up to their UFC 158 clash in 2013 was one of the most entertaining in the history of the sport. St-Pierre dominated Diaz for most of the fight and won via a unanimous decision, and their rivalry is one of the best in the sport’s history. Nick Diaz is an icon of the sport, along with his brother Nate. But how did the brothers end up on separate trajectories? Their head coach Cesar Gracie has some answers.

Coach explains why Nate and Nick Diaz’s lives took such different trajectories
While Nick Diaz has been on something of a downward spiral, his younger brother, Nate Diaz continued fighting and is still seemingly healthy as ever. Nate, of course, left the UFC after fighting out his contract in 2022 but has continued his combat sports career. The former BMF contender beat UFC rival Jorge Masvidal in the squared circle last year, after having boxed Jake Paul in a losing bout the year before.
So what is the reason for the Diaz brothers’ differing trajectories? Well, their long-time coach and father figure, Cesar Gracies has a theory.

“What Nate did is he got married, and to someone that kind of keeps him grounded and has a good mentality. Nick never had that. I think sometimes if you marry the right person, I think it helps you,” Gracie said in an appearance on Legacy TV.
But as we have already mentioned, it does seem that the former two-promotion champion is on the path to recovery. With even his former rival Georges St-Pierre in his corner, fans are hoping to see Diaz healthy and fighting again. After all, Nick Diaz is just one of those guys who makes the sport better by being in it. What do you think about GSP’s generous offer for Nick Diaz?
