The welterweight title challenger, Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington, is set to take on Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards at UFC 296. However, many have questioned the logic of Covington getting a third title shot ahead of more active contenders in the division, as he has not competed in almost two years. But ‘Chaos’ has been vocal about the reason for his absence.

Covington claimed that the reason for his absence was due to him not getting opponents. The title challenger claimed to have been ducked by fighters in his division, even naming the likes of Dustin Poirier and Khamzat Chimaev. However, Daniel Cormier and Ben Askren had a different perspective on the situation.

In a recent video on Daniel Cormier’s YouTube channel, Askren and Cormier talked about the rumor surrounding Covington’s claims of Chimaev ducking him for a fight. Cornier questioned Askren on his thoughts on whether he thought Chimaev was ducking Covington or the other way around.

Former UFC welterweight Ben Askren responded, “It’s pretty wild because Colby has not fought since March of 2022 so we’re talking, That’s 21 months of not fighting. It’s a really long time. I don’t know whether to believe him or not on that one. I’m not really certain whether they actually tried to make that fight. But Chimaev also has not been super active right.”

Askren then went on to talk about Chimaev’s activity inside the Octagon. He then told Cormier, “He did three fights in 2020 in like two months right and he didn’t fight again for another year toll October of 2021. Then he fought again on April but then you know, he hasn’t fought one time in the year which was Usman. So he’s kind of been a little slow again. He’s had these periods of inactivity.” Askren concluded by saying, “So honestly, I don’t know where to believe Colby. I would probably just lean towards not believing him since he’s the one that hasn’t fought in 22 months and if he wanted to fight, he probably would’ve fought.”

Ben Askren is set on believing that Covington is lying about Borz ducking Covington. However, is that true for his long-time beef with UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier?

It’s not a surprise that Dustin Poirier and Colby Covington have no love for each other. The two formerly fought from the same gym; however, after a beef between Covington and Masvidal started, it spilled over to Poirier. Covington made a callout against Poirier after his fight against Masvidal.

But Poirier declined the fight, claiming that he did not want Covington to make money off of him. Poirier then claimed that the next time the two fought, it wouldn’t be inside an Octagon, and someone would spend time inside prison.
