The question has taken the internet by storm over the past few days. Who would prevail in a battle between 1 gorilla and 100 men? So much so that even popular YouTuber Mr. Beast has asked for volunteers. “Need 100 men to test this, any volunteers?” the YouTuber wrote on X, along with an AI-generated picture of a gorilla standing menacingly opposite rows of men.

While this debate has divided the internet, with most unsure about the answer, at least UFC megastar Conor McGregor thinks he knows the answer to the question. “On behalf of gorillas, I’d smoke a 100 easy,” McGregor wrote on X.

We do not know the exact reasoning behind ‘Mystic Mac’ picking the hypothetical gorilla to beat the hypothetical one hundred men, since the Irishman didn’t go into any details. But we assume he is picturing a scenario where those hundred men fight the gorilla barehanded. But even that isn’t a sure thing.

Humans may not be the biggest or fastest or strongest animal by any stretch of the imagination, but there is a reason we are at the very top of the food chain and it’s not even close. The fact that humans can work in groups, use tools and projectiles is a superpower that made our ancestors get the better of every animal in the world. For instance, humans used to hunt woolly mammoths in the ice age, against whom a gorilla is like a house cat.

Working in small groups (let alone a group of a hundred) with tools like a stone spear or a stone axe would be more than enough for a gorilla to handle. But as far as good old fashioned fisticuffs is concerned, the gorilla does seem like it would have the upper hand. But would it have the upper hand against one hundred men? Surely the gorilla would get tired by the 85th or 90th guy and just collapse out of sheer fatigue.

Or maybe the gorilla could go on a rampage and just 10-7 a hundred guys in a short period of time. No wonder the question has gone viral in recent days. But McGregor, representing the gorillas, feels he knows the exact answer to that question, which makes one curious about his reasoning.
