Alistair Overeem is all set to face Rico Verhoeven on Oct 23 for the GLORY heavyweight title. The veteran MMA fighter will go into the fight on the back of a loss in his last outing. ‘The Demolition Man’ faced Alexander Volkov in his last fight and lost via a 2nd round TKO.

After the fight, Overeem cut ties with the UFC and therefore many thought this might be the end of Overeem’s career. However, the fighter has now revealed that he will fight this October. ‘The Demolition Man’ announced this news when he made an appearance on THE MMA HOUR with Ariel Helwani.

During the course of the interview, Helwani even went on to ask Overeem when he plans on retiring. ‘The Demolition Man’ did not give an exact answer, and hilariously went after Helwani for trying to pin him down.

He said, “Never say never, but could be. It could be. I know you are trying to pin me down. That’s kind of what you do.” Helwani quickly tried to turn things around and reminded Overeem of the time he stopped his Takedown attempt.

Helwani said, “Remember one time I went to Jackson’s, and you tried to pin me down. I showed impeccable takedown resistance.”

However, Overeem was in an exceptional mood and did not let any opportunity to troll Helwani go. He said, “I was very successful in pinning you down. It almost resulted in a lawsuit.”

Alistair Overeem does not believe Ariel Helwani has ever hit anyone

The conversation between Helwani and Overeem became hilarious at every passing moment. ‘The Demolition Man’ even asked Helwani about his fighting, or rather punching, experience.

Overeem asked, “Now listen, you’ve never fought in your life. You have never punched another man in your life, have you? Have you been punched in your life? I don’t even think you ever got punched. No No, but listen Have you ever punched somebody, and have you ever been punched?”

Helwani was also not one to back down and continued on the subject as he joked about having an amateur MMA career in which he had a record of 15-3. He even talked about how he had started boxing before COVID hit and he had to stop.

Helwani even said, “I did some boxing training, for the last year pre covid and the hands were flying Alistair. People were comparing it to the great Floyd Mayweather. Unfortunately, Covid hit.”

After the interview, Helwani was asked on Twitter why he did not make Overeem remember that he defended his Takedown. To which Helwani replied, “I did. He chose to conveniently forget it. I mean just look at those hips. That sprawl. I’d want to forget it too if I were him”
